Gucci hobo vs. Chloe paddington?
Permalink Closed

so as a present to myself for passing the CA bar exam, i've decided to treat myself to a new bag.    i've been looking at the Gucci monogram hobo in brown for some time, so i went into the BH store today just to "take a look."  not a good idea.  there wasn't one on display, so i asked the sales associate if they had any, and she told me that perhaps she could find one last one still in the box (which i'm sure she said just to entice me into getting the bag).  of course, her line totally worked, and when she took it out of the box for me to try on, i was already inclined to purchase it.  and then when i tried it on, well, i just loved it and had to have it!   however, now that i have it at home, i'm wondering if it's really a "classic" that justifies it's price.  i was also considering getting the paddington, which is around the same price, but thought that it was perhaps a bit too trendy.  i have 10 days to decide if i wanna keep it ... any thoughts?

I like the Paddington better, though I've heard it is a heavy bag to carry.

I think if you're going to spend that kind of money on a bag, it seems like it'd be easier to justify if you bought the Paddington, because it's leather.  Spending that much on a canvas bag just doesn't seem worth it, IMO.  It's a cute bag, but for the price, I just think the Paddington is a better buy.

I have a paddington, and don't consider it too trendy - for whatever it's worth, it was deemed a classic by Shop etc. along with birkins, and I'm not seeing it being "out" any time soon.  it is a heavy bag to carry, but it looks cool and it's really practical.  I like the Gucci, but not as much as the paddington - and that's a good point about fabric vs. leather for the same price.

I love gucci bags but that one looks a bit big to me.  Maybe a different style would make you love it more?

Another vote for the Paddington here.  Like NCShopper, I just wouldn't be able to soend that kind of money on a canvas bag.  Leather bags are totally worth it.  I also don't think it is too trendy.

It's all about the details IMO. The Paddington has a ton of beautiful ones that help justify its price. The Gucci is meh for the price if it's not leather.

i think it depends on how you view your style. i think that both have a lot of staying power. i'd personally go with the paddington, but it works more with my personal style, which i like to think of as "edgy."  the gucci is an equally great bag, and would work well if your style is more classic and conservative (but not conservative in a bad way).

I actually love both, so I can't help you choose, but I just wanted to say that I don't think you can lose here!

i agree with honey in that it depends on your style.  What works the most with your wardrobe and lifestyle? I'm inclined to say go with the gucci, even though its price is high for non-leather (though i'm not sure if its leather or not matters at that price since you can find great leather bags for way cheaper as well- you really are only paying for the name) just because you have been thinking about it the most and are worried you won't like the paddington after time.  I have a vintage gucci logo bag and i seriously wear it every day- and i'm not a logo bag person.  Its probably 25 years old and still looks great.  Mine's the coated canvas and its held up great- not sure i'd pay a ton for regular fabric.

I'd be torn too!! That Gucci hobo happens to be one of my favorite shapes. Here is a pic of it on a person (taken from Purse Forum)... I love the look, although it would be too big for me personally.

I agree with whomever posted about leather vs. canvas. The price of the Gucci bag is, IMO, too high for a canvas bag. I personally LOVE the Paddington, I wish I had one. Good luck making a decision!
