How do you stay organized?

I feel like I can never really stay organized.  I use MS Outlook for work, I have Treo Palm Pilot, and a Kate Spade planner but I can't keep up with any one of them.  What is your system for staying organize???

my system is to throw a bunch of papers, post-its, and CDs on my desk. Then, if I need something or want to know what I'm supposed to be doing that day, I proceed to rifle through everything for an hour only to realize that what I need is actually sitting in a pile of crap on the ironing board

my apartment is completely chaotic, which is weird because at work I have to tidy up my desk every hour or so or else I go nuts

So... I'm not very helpful

I tried a Palm Pilot, that didn't work for me, either.  I forgot to use it!  I'm horribly disorganized.  The only thing that helps me is a wall calendar next to my desk at home to keep track of appointments and anything where I have to be somewhere at a certain time.  I also stick post-its to my monitor along the bottom of stuff I need to do during the week.  It's not the most sophisticated system, but it works for me.  I wish I was one of those "naturally organized" people, but it's been a lifelong struggle so now I'm happy with just showing up at stuff when I'm supposed to.

When something comes up I automatically put it on my calender. If it is not written down for me, I will forget it.

I think it is best to just use one thing or if you are going to use two things make sure they work together (like a palm and outlook together).  If you are constantly trying to update a bunch of different things you will not want to keep up with it.  I use my calender at work (which I can view from home as well).

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of planner do you use?  Any particular brand?
