Black dress/brown belt?
Permalink Closed

Is it ok to wear a black dress with a wide brown belt?  I bought a dress similiar to the one below, but the waist isn't cinched in, it just flows from the top down and I wanted to get some sort of shape so I thought a belt would look cute.  I keep seeing people mixing brown and black, but wasn't sure.  Also, would I wear brown shoes, too?  Or should I just get a gold belt?  TIA!

I personally think it's fine to mix brown and black and I do it all the time..but some people are really weird about it.

I say go for it.

I like to mix black and brown, too. If you like it, you can wear it!

I think a green belt would also look pretty with black.

LOVE, though I prefer a brown belt that's not too dark-chocolate because I think the contrast in very neccessary so as not to have people think you're trying to pass off the belt as black.

I agree yes - do you have leopard shoes? I just always feel like (for me) leopard pulls the brown & black together - especially if I'm feeling uncomfortable about it.

I'm sorry but I say no.... I guess you can pull it off with the shoe color as suggested, but I have always avoided black with brown. Its a nice look your trying to do, so If you're going for a more refined look I would change the belt color.

I don't like black with brown that often, except - I love black dresses with brown belts for some reason. I agree with Lilykind that the brown should be obviously brown and not almost-black.

And, like Laken - I think leopard shoes would be perfect!!

I like it, again as long as the brown is lighter so it doesn't look like you're trying to pass it off as black.

I have a little black cotton sundress that I wear with a wide, kind of distressed old-school tan leather belt.  I've worn it with black sandals, tan sandals, and cream peep toe pumps.  I think a print would be cute, too.

No, I don't, but that's a great idea!  I'll have to look for some.  Thanks!

BTW- this is Similiar to the belt I was planning on wearing with it.  Will this look ok? Or should I just wear it with the second one and gold heels?  Thanks for everyone's help!
