Is there hope for me and my skirt?
Permalink Closed

I bought this skirt somewhat on a whim at H&M because I loved it and it was $30 and I thought that the things I didn't like about it (a little long, a smidge too poufy) could be easily fixed by my tailor.

Welllll, that's not the case. The tailor pinned and tucked, and I just didn't like it. I think I would have to pay to have the skirt totally remade, which would be more than $100, which I just don't want to spend right now. Problem is, I kind've wanted to wear this to an event this weekend. So, I need honest opinions. Do either of these two ways to wear it work, at all? I know some of you might just hate the skirt, and that's okay; I can handle the honesty.

Any other ways to wear it suggested are welcome. The main problem is that the skirt has an elastic waist, and I have a big tummy, so I have to control any bulging where the waist hits.

Option #1: With the corset top, skirt is at my natural waist.

Option #2: With skirt pulled higher on my waist and corset top fastened over it. This is the length I want, but I'm worried I look fat with the extra layer under the corset and I feel ghetto for being too cheap to pay to have it shortened.

I didn't see the first option from the side, but I think the second option, with the corset overtop of it, definitely isn't flattering. I know you don't like the length on the first one, but I really do love that length, and I think it looks really cute

I do like the length of the second one, but I agree that it isn't the most flattering.  However, I think that the length of the first one would be totally fine and totally cute.

Is the skirt a light pink? I can't totally tell on my screen.

I'm having a problem with the skirt and a black top and shoes...

Once I know the color, I could give some other options.

I like #1 the best, most flattering

Kitty, it is kind've a grey/pink. It's an unusual, but a really pretty, color.

I think the first option looks very cute! It's definitely more flattering on you.

I'm not feeling the skirt. You are much tinier than it makes you look.

Honestly,I think that it's really easy to tell that you have a great figure - and therefore don't necessarily have to worry about everything being the most flattering. Like, sometimes models will look heavy wearing a certain dress or something - but you know it's not the model. I think the skirt is really cute and unique, and I don't think it's that unflattering that you should return it, or that you'd have to completely remake it.

Sorry for the strange wording - I hope this makes sense!

I think it is very unflattering, either way you wear it.  It just overwhelms with the poofiness of the skirt.  I think you would be best to return it and buy something you love.   The weekend is still a few days away.

You're tall enough to wear it and you have the body to wear just about anything. The thing is that I think it's too much and that you look better in so many other things you own

I love the idea, especially the color though. The proportions are just off.

I'm not the biggest fan of the outfit, but if it helps I like the first pic. But my biggest problem is the shoes ... if you had something sleeker and in a lighter color it would look better... a nice silver open toe or sandal would work.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the opinions! I seriously love the idea of the skirt; I just still can't decide if I love it enough to wear it even though I know it doesn't look great on me.

Maybe I will have it remade ... possibly with a fitted wide waistband or something.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions!

ETA: And thanks for the kindness about my figure! It's definitely not what I'd consider great, so thanks for being so sweet.
