Is anyone else sick of empire waists, trapeze tops, and just clothes that don't define or flatter the figure in general?? It seems like almost everything out there falls into this category.
Oh my god, yes. I feel like this is why I've started wearing boring clothes recently. Everything interesting that's out there makes me look 10 lbs heavier!
I agree completely! They either make me look very pregnant (this would be a good time to stock up on maternity clothes, though, if I needed any!) or like I simply have no waist.
I just tried on this top the other day and I looked absolutely hideous in it. It was like an enormous sack on me.
ITA that so much of what is out there right now is very billowy, which can be hard to pull off without cinching in your waist with a belt, or without being 5'7 or above.
It seems that it wasn't too long ago that so many of the available clothes were really tight, which can obviously be difficult to pull off for other reasons, like if you have a tummy you want to hide......
I guess I'm always looking for those in-between clothes - not so flowy and huge that they're flapping in the wind, but not skin-tight either. I have bought a few billowy tops this season, and I do think empire waists can be very flattering if the fabric profile below the bust isn't really wide, but I don't want my entire wardrobe to look like I'm preparing for pregnancy, either! I hope more tops that accentuate the waist are in store for fall.
Oh my gosh yes I'm ready for something new! I am completely frustrated. My chest can't fit into anything empire-waisted, even if the rest of it is fitted and looks good. But it seems like anything that doesn't have that high waist is just huge! I want something that just shows off my body, and doesn't make me look like a shapeless tent. I'm a woman! I want people to be able to tell that!

honestly? i pretty much said f*** it to about 95% of the billowy, tent-like things.
I have a few things, but I don't want to buy too many things that don't flatter me. I even tried on a bright lemon yellow shirt from Zara that was so cool and I wanted it, but it was a trapeze top that didn't really show that I had a waist (and it was made of polyester and viscose...a no-no in my book).
I hear ya... I cannot wear any of these billowy styles-makes me look dumpy and frumpy. So, I pretty much bought staples for summer, tees, tanks, etc... Because of this, I feel pretty boring... but, I am not going to buy items of clothing just because they are in style-wont feel comfortable and will end up not wearing them.
