Help a Handbag Novice Buy Her First Nice Handbag!

I graduated law school last month and received a bit of "graduation cash" from friends and family. I would like to invest in a really quality handbag. I've never had a nice handbag before-- I think my most expensive "bag" is a $75 wristlet from Coach!

But I figure that I'm starting a new, professional phase of my life and need a nice new handbag to go with it. But I have no idea where to start. You guys really seem to know your handbags so I thought this might be a good place to get some ideas. This is basically what I'm looking for: it has to be $500 or less. My style is very classic so I would prefer a bag that didn't have too many "bells and whistles". I tend to prefer bags that are a little on the roomy side. I think dark brown would the best choice since it would go with everything.

I'm looking for an every day bag. I already received a very nice Coach tote to carry to work.

I realize $500 doesn't go *so far* when it comes to the better handbags but I figure I have to work my way up to the LV and Gucci ones :)

I like Kooba a lot too. They're pretty classic without being boring, and they use the nicest leathers. IMO they don't even compare to anything else in that price range- they're so much nicer!

seriously, june is going to be the best month to buy because everyone is having a sale!  My first nice bag was a Marc Jacobs hobo I would never have been able to afford at full price, it was 30% off at Nordstrom in June and it was the best buy ever.  so keep an eye out for the sales, you never know what you might find!
