I don't know if they have gray, but I love J. Crew for suits. They're really the only ones that fit me nicely and don't make me look either really matronly or really unprofessional.
ILC, I agree. I have one from JCrew in wool gaberdine and it really has held up well, but the color is a little weird and the pants have gotten kinda tight. So I know I can always count on JCrew for a good suit ... I'm just looking at other options.
If you can make it to a Nordies (although there are plenty of other stores that carry this, Nordies just comes to mind first), Elie Tahari makes some really well cut, feminine yet professional suits. Highly recommend!
I bought a Folio suit from Saks off 5th last year....at first I was worried about the quality, wasn't sure how it would hold up etc. but now it has become my "go-to" suit...The jacket hangs very well and the skirt is cut perfectly...I loved it so much I went back and go the the pants that matched the jacket.
I really like J.Crew jackets, but I always have problems with their pants.
I think suit buying in general is really just trial and error...I would hit Off 5th or Nordstroms and just start trying on until you find one you're comfortable in.
