Good idea -- I looked into it, though, and they need a birth certificate (which is still with my passport).

I'm sure you thought of this and the answer is probably no but can you send them a copy of your birth certificate?

they need the certified copy with the raised seal, which is the original.

honey - that is so sweet of you to try calling them!

**ETA** you guys are probably sick of this saga by now, but I just called to find out if they can tell me if/when/how my passport was mailed so I can try to persuade the airline: their phone services are closed. They have had a thunderstorm in their area and have no power, computer or telephone service. So I can't even guage when this passport is coming. This situation is becoming comical!

Oh lord.  I just wish that you go home and find that passport on your doorstep and they were wrong this whole time.  I know this is too late but my state will make copies of your birth certificate if you lose it and certify it with a raised seal and all.  After hearing this it makes me want to go and get an extra copy of my certificate!

Wow! What a disaster! Is it a required skill that people who work in passport offices be completely incompetent? I just don't understand. I don't remember having any issues when I applied for my passport.

I'm sorry you have to deal with all of this crap, halleybird!

So...I am officially not going. My passport has been processed, but they can't be sure if it shipped today or will ship tomorrow, and I won't know until after my flight takes off tomorrow morning, so too late to try to persuade the airline.

At least the saga is all over. I feel really emotionally drained from spending the past three days on this crap.

I can't believe all you went through trying to get your passport.  Its completely absurd.  Sorry you are missing your trip.

This is really sad....these people won't do their jobs unless someone is a b**** to them or lies to them. I know they are busy and all that but come on.....I can only imagine how many other people have had to go through this too.

That lady on the phone...she may not have the number to the SF office but I bet IF she tried she could get it for you or connect you to someone else who can get it. I wonder if you could get it from information somehow? or on whitepages.com or somewhere.

As far as your complaint letter...I would also include that they should be reimbursing you the money you are out since you were repeatedly told it would get there on time. I hope their complaint dept takes better care of the customers than the rest of the place does.

At least your hubby and the other teacher are being very good to you. That was really nice of her to offer her frequent flyer miles like she did.

H,

After reading all the posts, I keep thinking that there had to be a reason why you were not meant to go on this trip. (And I don't mean because of foot-dragging by the passport office.) I'm sorry you had to deal with all the aggravation.

you know, I was having this same thought too last night.  as disappointing as this all is, the forces were definitely not with you (for lack of better reference) and maybe it's for the best

i know i know i had that maybe it's meant to be moment too but i just can't help being mad as all get out at them.  and i agree w/ i love choo--i still think there's gotta be a way for hb to go, even if a day late or whatever.  what's the airline that needs convincing?  it can't hurt to try....but hb if you're emotionally drained and just don't want to think about it anymore, i understand.  maybe we should just let it go (argh...)...

Me too! I thought that when I first posted but I just figured I was being dumb. I'm glad others are as dumb as me.

That said, I'm terribly sorry you couldn't go on your trip. I would be so incredibly pissed off, it wouldn't even be funny if I were you. I guess there's a point you have to accept it but I don't know if I could ever get over it.

The bright side is you get to be with your hubby for your anniversary and maybe get a romantic getaway out of the whole deal. Not Paris, but maybe it could be even more special. I hope you feel better soon, hb!!

I think you're right! My passport, by the way, showed up at my door at 10 a.m. this morning, which almost makes it worse because if it had just been a few hours earlier, I could go. I called the airline, just to be sure they couldn't change my flight, and the guy put me on hold, saying he'd try to work something out. And then...I got a dialtone. The line was somehow disconnected accidentally. So that's when I gave up. Normally I am not overly superstitious, but how many signs do I need?!?

I have been following your saga (I am so mad for you), but I agree with the others... maybe it's best you're not going.

So what are you gonna do now for 2 weeks? Have you decided on any mini-trips?

wow that's disturbing. I would have just stopped there too. Maybe it's a guardian angel looking out for you.  (or maybe I've just seen too much Lost lol). You will have a much better time with whatever you do instead anyway.
