Any shopping ban girls out there?

There haven't been any updates in a while, and I'm getting back on the ban, so...

How is everyone doing with their shopping ban?

I am doing well with my grocery shopping ban.  My bf offered to go to the grocery store for me tonight so I'm going to plan out my menu for the week and send him based on what I have at home already.

The shopping ban is not so well but not out of control.  I was planning to allow myself $$ for shopping while on vacation last week and I did really well.  Everything came in around $300 which is reasonable.  I am allowing myself a few purchases at the Nordies sale starting next week then I'm strictly on a work clothes only ban and a piece or two for vacation in september so I don't run out and buy a bunch of junk the week before the trip that I think I love but don't.

I'm glad you posted this!

I've been doing well, except I need a new dress for two weddings this summer (my BF's sister and a friend from college). Over the past year I've gained some weight and the dress I wanted to wear no longer fits. So, while I hit the gym and eat healthier I'm allowing myself a new dress. Besides that, no shopping!

Last week, I bought 2 tees for $6.99 (does that even count?) and another shirt that was basically a reward for successfully being on the ban for 6 weeks.  Overall, I've spent about $70 on clothes and makeup since mid-April, so I think I'm doing really good.

My ban/shopping diet lasts until I go to NYC in October.  I have a long way to go, and it is starting to get harder, so I am really appreciating these encouraging posts.

I'd like to join the ban. I went from Feb 21-early May w/o buying anything and it felt great....then the past few weeks i've been buying a bunch of stuff. I only want to ban myself from buying clothes (housewares and entertainment are allowed) and I have a $30 gc to gap and $60 gc to BR so using those is allowed.

I did a lot of spending in May, so all of June I will not allow myself any purchases besides necessities.

Knowing I didn't break my April ban will help keep me in track since I know I can do it!

Tips for myself:

  1. Do not open shopping invitation e-mails

  2. Do not browse shopping websites

  3. Do keep my eyes to the floor at Target and make a beeline to cleaning supplies and toiletries.

  4. Bring a shopping list to Target, if it is not on it, do not buy it (even if it is only $3!)

  5. Keep busy at home.  Clean, organize, crafts, cooking, etc.

Those tips are what I used in April.  They work!

I'm still here, still surviving my ban.  I haven't bought anything in a few weeks, and it's been surprisingly easy.

My allowed purchases for June will be:

  1. denim skirt

  2. casual shoes

I am on a grocery shopping ban too Aurora!! I seriously had a problem. There was all this food at home and I kept buying more cause I felt like eating something else. So, I started yesterday and I am banning myself from buying food for the entire week. Should be interesting since I think I was viewing grocery shopping as part of my daily routine. Sad.

OMG I am so glad I'm not the only one!!!  I am seriously going to do a major clean out this summer of my pantry and freezer.  I would buy lots of pantry "staples" and then never use them.  I keep getting lazy and eating lean pockets or msf foods so I don't have to cook.

Grocery shopping is like a daily thing and its so hard to break.  It seriously sucks!  I am having to do lists of essentials that I run out of and handing it to the bf to go get because I don't know self control yet.

I am doing really well! I didn't shop this weekend or the weekend before. I haven't set foot in the mall, although the urge is getting to me. Its alot easier when you have a goal to work towards (in my case, my trip to Philadelphia) than just trying to stop cold turkey. Every time want to buy something I think about all the better things I could buy when I'm there.

However, I think I need to go on a beer ban. I have been indulging too much lately.

Ditto!  But not until after the Stanley Cup finals.  Have you been watching too much hockey too?  I'm guessing y'all must be pretty excited even tho it isn't the Flames this year?

I've been ok so far.  I got a new job, & needed to get a few things to add to my wardrobe, but thankfully, haven't gone over $200.

I think I need to do the grocery ban.  My pantry's stocked full of stuff, but I keep buying stuff.  I guess I need to clean out my cupboards before I shop.

I've been so-so this month. I haven't purchased any clothing or beauty items, so that's good. I did go a little crazy and buy a few seasons of the Gilmore Girls on dvd at Target because they were on sale for $22 and I was at home a lot during the month of May so I wanted to watch them. I also bought the Dixie Chicks cd last week but luckily it was only about $10.

So May was officially a bad month for me. I lost control of my control. Now it's over and June is here and it's going to be a lot better. I've been saving my Nordies gift cards from xmas, so I'm going to hit up the sale next week to see if there are some things I absolutely can't live without (i.e. cute shoes, skirts, bathing suits, etc.) but that's only $150, so after that, I'm done.

Oh! And I bought a new computer on Saturday. This was a planned purchase though. I've been looking for one for ages and Best Buy finally did their 18 month no finance thing, so I got one. My old computer died about a month ago and I've been starving for ST ever since (I can only come on during lunch or something at work now). I'm incorporating the entire cost of the computer into an 18 month payment plan though, so hopefully it won't cause too much damage.
