The girl that runs stylediary.net does a lot of L.A. shopping, you should check out her site.

As for personal recommendations Wasteland is one of my favorite vintage stores.  There is one on Melrose and one on The Promenade in Santa Monica, which isn't far from the strip.  In fact I recommend going there for chain store shopping, it's fairly popular w/ the L.A. set

I've never been to Dari, but, it's owned by Captain Kirk's (a.k.a. William Shatner) daughter so you need to go just for the fun factor!  Have a great time!

LOL about Sunset Plaza (the shopping area on Sunset). I luurve going there, but I can barely afford to buy Fresh cosmetics (our Fresh store is there...if you like their products, you should get a facial for $125 and you get a credit for $125 worth of products at the store). I always go into Traffic and stop by the clearance racks. That boutique is decent. There's a lot of fun window shopping. I adore Calypso too for the beachy stuff. Hmmmmmm...there's a lot of heavy designer hitters there like Catherine Malandrino. There is a Club Monaco, but it's not a great one and I don't believe in chains anyways when you're somewhere like that.

Since you're only going to be here for the weekend, I'd keep shopping concentrated on West Hollywood. I love going on Melrose between La Cienega and Fairfax (Agent Provocateur, Fred Segal which you should go into even though IMO it's not great because it's Fred Segal, Fornarina, a really good BCBG, Lotta, Marc Jacobs, I think our DVF store is there...) and get a slice of cake and French Press coffee at Sweet Lady Jane!

I like Melrose all the way past Fairfax to La Brea, but the vibe changes completely so things are a lot more trendy/punk/vintage and it's the best people watching. I'd do a little detour to Melrose and La Brea to hit up one of my favorite boutiques ever, Yellow. The Wasteland is a huge favorite of mine too...I actually found a 70s vintage chevron pattern DVF once that was one size too small for me for $55.

Or you can do West 3rd St. between La Cienega (the Beverly Center) and Fairfax (the Grove). I love Milk, Sigerson Morrison, Hillary Rush, Satine, Polkadots and Moonbeams, Zipper and Scout. There's also a cute boutique for dogs and kids called "puppies and babies" where I have to forcibly restrain myself from buying things for my little sister. I love love love Joan's on Third if you're hanging out here...they make such good salads and the BEST cupcakes.

I really like 3rd St. Promenade, but IMO Santa Monica is far from West Hollywood when there's traffic. It would be fun to go during the Saturday morning farmer's market though. It has all the chain stores you could ever want (except for H&M though hahah).

Dari might not be too terrible to get to from Sunset Strip. You'd just need to take Crescent Heights which becomes Laurel Canyon and puts you plunk in Studio City. There's a bit of boutique shopping in that area of Studio City. I've never been so I can't personally recommend it, but it looks really great from the outside.
