I have come to the realization that I don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to my eyebrows. I'm thinking of getting them waxed so a professional can shape them, but I'm kind of scared - if I come out looking horrible, I'll be stuck like that!
Does anyone get her eyebrows waxed? Do you have any suggestions? Do I have to grow out my brows before I can get it done? I don't want to look like a bushman just because I'm waiting for my waxing app't!

I get mine waxed and I also get them tinted. I used to do the plucking thing..but after getting them done professionally there is really no comparison.
My place has this book with about one million different shaped eyebrows and I chose one from there..
My only recommendation is to bring some sort of cleanser, astringent..etc. when you get them done. I tend to get zits if I don't clean immediately after they wax. I guess it's because teh pores open up. It happens to my friends too..one of them swears by putting ice on the brow right after.
My recommendation is to go to someone for *minimal* shaping a few times and make sure you and her/him see eye to eye on how you want them to look. I agree that getting them done is way better than doing them yourself, but be careful who you let near them!

I've had mine waxed once instead threading and I really decided I preferred threading. First time I went to get my eyebrows threaded was to have them shaped. You don't really "pick" a shape - if you have a good person, they will go over your facial structure and features and explain what shape they'll do and why.
Also second the notion to make sure the place is very clean. I'd rather pay the extra $1-2 for the hygiene factor!
My girl is not cheap, but boy is she worth it! She determines the shape of the brow, depending on the face, but I have asked for fuller brows in the past and she has obliged. Now, I just let her do her thing and I love them. I will never go back to tweezing because there is just no comparison. I did wait many, many years to get my brows done though, because I didn't know a good girl to go to and then by luck one day I discovered her. So, I think you need to ask around to find the best in your area. Don't let someone who doesn't specialize in brows do yours; I once had my hairdresser do them because it's a service the salon offers, but she didn't do any better than I could. I should also note that she was more than half the cost of the girl I go to now, so I do believe you get what you pay for.
Anastasia, the famous *brow artist to the stars* was on Oprah yesterday, and she said she has just trained all the brow waxers from Nordstroms across the country on her technique. So, if you have a Nordstrom in your area, I would start there.
I get mine waxed, and I love it. My brows are light, so waxing helps clean up the the hairs I can't see/tweeze. Plus, it's easier to get them waxed every 4-6 weeks and not worry about them in between appointments.
I just started going again - I basically let my brows grow for a little over a week before the appt. and my esthetician shaped them from there. She told me not to pluck them near the main brow, but strays were ok in between appts. She said I should come in every 3-4 weeks to maintain my shape.
I actually go to a esthetician who works at a doctor's office (I think he does plastic surgery and laser treatments). She charges me a bit less than a salon would $15 versus $20.
I get my brows waxed about twice a year by a brow shaper to the stars. I think it looks great, but I don't think it's all that great for my skin. I have my brows threaded in between to maintain the shape, because IMHO $50 is a ridiculous amount to spend every month getting my brows done. Heck, even the esthetician herself said she thinks I can get away with seeing her only twice a year or so and getting someone else to maintain it the rest of the time! Getting my brows threaded is only $8 and I love how my skin feels so soft and looks so glowy afterwards.
I have never had a good cheap waxing experience, but I don't doubt for a second that there are wonderful estheticians out there who do a great job and are afforadable.
thanks everyone! I'm definitely going to start getting mine waxed. I don't look awful, but I feel like my brows could look *so* much better. I posted this because I thought about getting them waxed before a wedding this weekend...but I decided against it. I'm afraid that they'll really screw me up and I'll be immortalized in pictures that way! but hearing everyone rave about it gave me the courage to finally get it done :)

If you are worried about them screwing up - just tell them to go easy on the first time. You can also ask for a mirror so you can check on the progress.
Don't worry though - most brow waxers know what they are doing. My friend made the comment that getting brows waxed after a long time is like an instant face lift - and it is!
