Gift Bag Giveaway

seriously - I really hope no one here succumbs to this because a "celebrity" is wearing it. If you choose to buy it, please love it for what it is, not because it was validated in a staged wearing by a celebrity...

I actually think this is totally going to flop.

As someone who does marketing for a living, I am having a very hard time figuring out the target audience for this line.

But why would they by Target "designer" stuff out of all the designer stuff out there? It just doesn't make sense to me...but then again, maybe people really are that dumb.

You know, to be ironic.  They think it's so campy and cute to buy cheap stuff, so this would be their way of mocking designers or trends or whatever.  Come on, you must notice this behaviour among celebs and wannabe celebs!

I think Kmart should jump on this bandwagon - it could be called "Kture"

I'm in marketing too, and I think they're missing the mark on this - unless, of course it was designed to leverage the herd nature of celebrity mimicking, and the staging of celebs wearing the pieces is a part of the overall strategy.

The logic of this line is flawed in my opinion.  It's something like this: Target is popular. Target is popular because it offers trendy apparel for low prices. Therefore, Target will be popular at high prices.  See? it doesn't make sense - it's flawed logic.

This also goes into what is their core competency as a company.  The differentiate themselves in the marketplace by being the leader of affordable/accessible style.  Sometimes their lines have an exclusive nature because they sell out fast - but I don't think that carries over to exclusivity in Target as a brand.  Which is what I think they're trying to capitalize on - the exclusivity of Target as a brand, which it is not, it's the lines that Target carries that sometimes have an air of exclusivity.

Well said. Target the brand is very different from the guest designers they feature. People aren't buying the guest designer clothes b/c they are from Target. People are buying them because they are available at Target for a lower price. No one is buying the bullseye. There's no status in that.

Ha! Cute. Maybe Kohl's then, too. They had or do have Hillary Duff's line..I think. As to what Detroit stated, Kture ..so funny... Kohl-ture! Hehe!

We actually just had a Walmart Supercenter open 2 days ago in our small little town. I only am interested in the food section, because maybe they'll have something diff't than our oh-so-dull grocery stores, but I foresee the local Kmart maybe not being around forever. They'll only a few blocks apart! It is a town of less than 10K pop. Kmart has not had the best time recently, and I don't even know if the Sears buyout did them or Sears any good. Poor Kmart.Sort of sad when Wally World takes over. I am an AR gal originally, so I feel totally awful when they do this!

Anyway, that's the way the economy of our nation seems to work.

Who designed that Target Couture stuff? I see that they have to throw in into the hands of the celebs in order to make it look like it is cool. (It's not) However, people wear branded items all the time. American Eagle, Abercrombie, Coca-Cola, and even all those Junk Food shirts that look retro but actually sometimes are advertising brands that are still available ..DP, Sunkist, etc. So, it isn't cool...but it sells ...and people buy it!

A Walmart Supercenter opened up a few years ago in my hometown, thankfully I moved an hour and a half away a few years later. It's right between my house and my family's business, so every day I'm home I have to pass it at least a few times. It makes me so completely sad because the businesses that have been here for years and years are really suffering, and some have had to close down.

Exactly.  Most of them would never actually wear clothes from Target, but if it's expensive and has Target on it, it's like "I'm sensible, I wear Target stuff!"  Kinda like "oh, I'm so poor look at my (pretend) dirty, holed up jeans!"
