I really need some help in the shopping part. I have been reading this site for a while and u gals are really awesome at finding things or direct people to the right directions with the fashion.
I am 25yrs old. I will start my new job at Dept of Transportation in downtown DC in June. I live in casual cute funky clothes. Now, I need work clothes. I am not fond of those typical button down shirts and boring black pants with black slingbacks. I just enjoy being unique but I need to dress right for the workplace. I need to shop NOW before June comes.
They allow:
-sleeveless shirts (shoulders must be covered)
-open toe sandals
-jeans on fridays
I m not exactly rich right now. I need to budget wisely but I kind of need to revamp my closet. I also need shoes along with the clothes.
Help away! I m open to anything. Any of your inputs would be greatly appreciated!
oh i know what you are going through. Its been a year and i'm still trying to build up a decent work wardrobe that isn't dull. For pants I bought mine at gap, gap outlet, and br outlet when they were on sale. The gap ones you can find on sale racks for $20 a pair and they are pretty nice and machine washable (no dry cleaning which is a major plus).
Check out nine west for shoes and also tj maxx/marshalls for good, cheaper, shoes. If you have a dsw that would be a good source for nice shoes that aren't necessarily black slingbacks.
For tops though I am still working on it. Banana and Gap outlet are ok. Limited sometimes has good things. Its mainly summer clothes that I have the hardest time with.
Here are some tops that are not so basic that should be OK for work: I really like the lines in this and the sleeve length is great. $68 at anthropologie.
Very pretty, unique print. It's so versatile and I can see it working on jeans day with a pair of cool shoes. $58 at anthropologie.
this is great for every season but summer (only because of the sleeves!). $98 at anthropologie.
this over a more dressy, colorful camisole would be really cute. $78 at anthropologie.
great with jeans or a pencil skirt. $68 at anthropologie.
cute. $68 at nordstrom.
I think this is pretty funky. The green is great, but it's available in black, too. $68
Pants and skirts: this is pretty unique looking, or at least, I haven't seen anything else like it. Great with almost any color, too. $68 at anthro
simple and vibrant. $78 at anthro
can you wear cropped pants? These are lightweight and versatile. $88 at anthropologie also $88 at anthro.
incredibly versatile sailor pant. $78
Shoes (now the funkier stuff that you can get away with!): I love these shoes, they come in other patterns, too. Charles David Fuss $92 at zappos
for the days you don't want to wear heels, but want a colorful stride. Nine West Shandal2 $74 at zappos.
probably too over the top with a skirt, but on Friday with a pair of jeans and cute top... yes!! Joey O Tammi $88 at zappos
I don't know if these show too much foot, but they are really pretty. N.Y.L.A. Midori $78
these are adorable and come in tan, as well. I can see these working really nicely with the sailor pants posted above. Kenzie Harvest $83 at zappos.
too cute. Kenzie Stunner $83 at zappos.
You could probably find cheaper alternatives to the tops and skirts at stores like H&M and forever21, just watch out for quality. Ooh, if you have an Anthropologie near you, go there, their sales are amazing. When it comes to shoes and jewelry, don't skimp- you can tell. :)
Just to add some more typical shoes with a little bit of an edge: Simple, low heel with cutouts. Dollhouse $58 at zappos.
Oooh, I m really amazed with what u have came up with! I m going to Arundel Mills outlet mall to scoop those outlets. They have 9west, dsw, BR, Gap, Kenneth Cole, and I saved last for the best : Neiman Marcus Last Call and Saks Off 5th ave!
Hope I will have stuff to post in weekend shopping.
I actually found some pretty work clothes at JC Penny the other day, because I dislike button-downs too (I had to wear them every day in grade school and high school, I think I burnt out on them!). My favorite was a simple, soft wrap shirt from some brand called "Worthington" (I can't find it on their website, so I'm going back to mine this weekend to get a few more colors in case they're almost done with them!)...and it was pretty enough that I just kept it on for a date that night after work. And they weren't that expensive, like $17 on sale or something?
ETA: I know that JC Penny isn't going to have funky clothes but I meant that it has inexpensive, good basics so you can get away with an awesome pair of shoes
