Security blanket or stuffed animal when you were little? I used to HAVE to have a stuffed animal to sleep with when I was little. Not just any stuffed animal, I only had 2. I had a doll named Sally that my grandparents brought me back from a vacation. She was kind of a mix between raggady anne and strawberry shortcake. I slept with her until my mom washed her, which destroyed her.
My replacement animal was one of those "candy" themed animals that had a scent. I had the pepermint kitty. I still have her to this day, and I swear even after a couple washings, she still has a bit of a scent.

The strange thing is, I always had to have the doll or animal against my chin when I slept. The last time I slept with a stuffed animal was probaly around age 12. But ever since then and to this day, I am 25 now, I bunch up my covers and have to have them touching my chin. It gives me a sense of comfort. If I don't, I feel vulnerable and "naked" for lack of a better word. Isn't that strange?

So, out of curiosity, does anyone else have a comfort or security blanket or animal, or used to??

I had a blankie - it was one of my baby blankets.  My mom used to put her perfume on it, and I'd cover my nose with it to sleep.  I used to carry it everywhere, and then around age 3 or 4 my mom started keeping it in her purse in public.  I remember taking it to outdoor school hidden in my sleeping bag, so I must have had it until I was 11 or so .

My mom still has it, though now it's just a scrap that's maybe 6 inches square.

I had a blankie and a stuffed Snuggle bear (as in Snuggle fabric softner - they used to have stuffed animals).  I had that blankie until I wore holes in it.  And I carried my Snuggle bear everywhere

Not me, but my younger brother had a blankie and he would carry the thing around wherever he went.  I think he had it until age six or so. I was ruthless and would hide his blankie and tell him I threw it away and it was gone forever.  Boy, that would make him cry.  I've never understood the security blanket/toy thing, but I've got my own wierd hang ups.

I do/did. I had a nasty green blanket that I loved and still have in a box somewhere and I have the bedtime bear carebear still in my closet because I refuse to put him in a box because it's mean. Yes somewhere inside me the 7 year old still think he has feelings and can't bear to box him up.

i had a cheshire cat that my grams bought for me at disneyland that i still have.  my daughter loves to play with it.

my daughter actually has a stuffed lion that my hubby and i bought for her in vegas at the venitian.  it is the winged lion of saint marc.  it has a little gondola driver suit on and gold wings.  we got it for her when she was not quite 1.  it was about 2 weeks before her 1st birthday.  anyway, when we got it, it was really plush and soft and squishy and almost as big as her, and it hasn't left her site since we bought it.  she uses its head as a pillow and it is now all flattened and getting bald spots and the wings are not really gold anymore and it kind of stinks a little even after we wash it. and it used to stand up almost by itself, and now it just lumps over and it's neck is unstuffed from squeezing it around the neck.

I still have my blankie! It was given to me by my godmother when they baptized me and it is pink and white. I used to take it to every trip until my mom bought me another blanket to take instead.

My 2 older sisters and brother had the yellow carebear and my mom says that every time they would fall asleep they would be rubbing one spot and it just so happened that all three rubbed the same spot. Then 4 years later it was my turn to have the bear and I would also rub it at that same spot! We all ended up making a whole there!

I still have a stuffed bear from my first Christmas.  I had it on my bed until I was about 12 or so.  Now I have it in a closet in a plastic bag to keep the dust off.

I did have a blankie.  My little brother stole it from me when I was 4-5 years old.  My mom said he wouldn't want it in a couple years and I could have it back.  Um, he is now 20 years old and STILL has it!  That thing is purely nasty, the black death is probably on it.

Yes, I had a blanked called "night night".  My husband had a "night night" till we were married and then my oldest son took it over (it is a huge wool afgan).  Now my middle boy calls it his own (though I swear my husband tries to steal it from him).  My littlest boy has his own night night (the kind with the silky edge).

My baby boy also has a pacifier still that we cannot get rid of.  He calls it Robert.

shopchicago33: I had a Snuggle Bear too!

I had two HUGE (2ft.) white polar bears given to me around my 5th birthday that I ADORED. They were soo soft and since I was such a tiny little kid they seemed almost life size to me. I actually brought one of them to college in VA, where my ever-mature self set them on the bed with a Spongebob pillow buddy and my pale pink stuffed dog. I'm heartbroken that they're not here in LA with me...they didn't fit in my suitcases.

The aforementioned pale pink stuffed dog is also one of my favorites. My older cousin gave it to me when I was 8 years old for Christmas and it's never left my side since. It's still right beside my bed out here.

ETA: I just remembered that I had a favorite doll too. It was a pink plaid rag doll with a pink dress, orange hair, and blue leather circles for eyes. It had a rattle inside so it made noise and I was so fascinated by it. I got it for Christmas from my preschool and I was sooo attached it to at the time.

I had a Snuggle Bear too!!!

I always was attached to something, for a while it was the snuggle bear, then a stuffed wolf. I even had this doll, it was just a little boy in overalls, but it was my "car doll" and I would drive everyone crazy because I couldn't ride in the car without it. It's weird.

I like to snuggle more with boyfriends now, but when they're unavailable and I'm having a really bad day, I'll bust out my teddy bear or my stuffed animal. Of course, at all other times they're stuffed away in secrecy, but I think I'll like to hug soft things until the day I die, I'll be 90 and still hold my bears

I had a friend that had a maroon nightgown of her mom's that she carried around and slept with for a long time. I had a stuffed snoman. It's more like a pillow than a stuffed animal. I still have it in a box with other stuffed animals I've had forever and couldn't part with. I would tuck it in at night with me and my chin would rest on it. Sometimes my cat would sleep on it. I had a big bear I would sleep with on the rare occasion when DH was gone overnight until I got my dog. It's weird but I have to be touching either DH or my dog (even if it's just my foot or leg) or I can't fall asleep.

My "security blanket" was this really big bag I would carry everywhere that I called satchel.  I had the bag forever and would put things in it.  My mom and dad helped me let it go when I was about 5... we buried it and had a ceremony and I cried, but felt like I had acheived something.  That bag (which had the print of a hideous old couch) was with me 24 hours a day for about 2 years.

I had a small 'blanket' that a great-aunt knit for me....I've since passed it on to my son.

In order for him to fall asleep his little hand *must* be clutching a toy vehicle of some sort!

This makes me laugh because my 4 year-old carries a briefcase around too and it has to EVERYWHERE with us!  Anytime we get in the car he says, "where's my BRIEFCASE???" it goes to the sitter's, baseball games, on vacation.  It is so funny to see him take this thing around-it's as big as he is.  I love the ceremony and burial-that is a great idea!  I need to bury the blankets, the briefcase and the paci (Robert) very soon-all this paraphenilia is driving me batty!
