I read somewhere that the FDA does not permit hair products to carry SPF values because there is no way to know how much protection is provided.

And if they do, it is misleading because the only protection you'll be getting is if you actually rub it into your scalp. Your skin will be protected, but your hair will not.

HTH!

Honestly, I would just wear a hat or bandana. It is the best way to protect your head and your hair color!

aclassicbeauty is correct.  Hair products do not contain SPF but they do contain UVA and UVB protectants.  A lot of your "anti-fade" products contain great UVA and UVB protectants.

Redken launched a nice sun protectant line late this spring.  There are products specifically for blondes and for brunettes.  There is a leave-in detangler, an oil and a mask for after-sun.

edited to fix glaringly obvious grammer problem!!    and also say that BIOLAGE (matrix product) has recently added a sun protecting line very similar to the Redken line.

Banana Boat makes a hair and scalp spray that is spuuosed to protect your head from the sun. It's in a clear blue bottle with a sprayer. I bought it a summer or two ago at RiteAid

Frederic Fekkai has some hair protecting spray that's brand new for summer. My Victorias Secret is carrying it right now, and it looks like it would protect your hair.

I second greendiamond's recommendation. I used this stuff on my honeymoon - an eight day Caribbean cruise - and my scalp never burned. It's excellent!
