Should I keep this?/Outfit ideas for beach dress?
Permalink Closed

So I got this this weekend...

in this color...

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. It looks about the same on me as it does on the model. By that I mean it's not exactly unflattering, but it's not super flattering either. It's not something I'd usually wear, but I've been wearing the most boring stuff recently so I decided I need a mini fashion risk. Plus it was $30 down from $90. And I love the color and that it's washed silk.

So what can I wear this with? And to where? Right now I'm about to go hang out with some friends and I have it with this...

However, if I weren't currently on the campus of a liberal arts college I might feel like a little too much of a hippie.

Anyway, this is totally long winded, but what should I do?

I'm not crazy about the length.

Maybe you could tie a colorful scarf around the natural waist (with the cardigan on)?

I think it's really cute and I think that color would look good on you.  The outfit you posted seems very "you" but if you wanted something different, I'd put it with a ballet flat or some sort of wedge.

I don't know, it doesn't do a whole lot for me, like you said it's not super flattering.

To me it seems like something that you'd grow to love. It seems like such an easy dress to throw on when you're lazy and still look cute. I like the outfit you're wearing, but I also went to a liberal arts college for two years (all girls, no less) so I'm totally adjusted to the idea of wearing birks with everything. I think with one of your cool necklaces (I know you've got a million), a light sweater or jacket and a pair of open toe wedges, you wouldn't feel so crunchy.

Plus the length is good if you're trying to get modest clothes...are you still planning on studying in Sri Lanka/South Asia? You're definitely tall enough to pull that length off.

I think you should definately keep it.  It looks very Maddie and love the idea of a scarf around the waist.  Especially since you got such a great deal, I think you'd regret if you returned it.

I think a low-slung belt with your birks and a chunky necklace would be cool, too .

Thanks guys, I've been wearing it around and decided to keep it. It was so cheap and it's totally growing on me. Plus I spilled a glass of milk down myself in the dining hall today which was hugely embarassing and also ensured that the dress is mine for keeps.

Funny about that milk!  I'm glad you are keeping the dress, because I think it's gorgeous!

I totally agree. I love green. Such a great color. I think the dress is feminine,  simple, not too much overall. A perfect lil' find for the days of summer.
