Itchy skin - help!
Permalink Closed

My skin (esp arms, legs and back) is so unbelievably itchy- I'm assuming its just dry skin as I have had problems w/that in the past- but it doesn't look dry- and nothing I am doing is helping (Neutrogena body oil both in the shower and when I get out, Jo Malone body lotion). My skin looks totally fine so I don't have a rash or anything like that- but I am dying of itchiness! Any suggestions? I also drink a ton of water - this is so unfair!

I had this happen to me 2 summers ago.  My feet and legs itched so bad, it was terrible!

I called my dermatologist actually, and he prescribed Clarinex - an allergey med...maybe you could try that.  It really helped me.

Also, have you changed body soap or laundry detergent lately?  The doc asked me that question too, and suggested I switch to All Free & Clear laundry soap.

HTH!

If your skin is dry have you tried exfoliating? Also I agree with shopchicago about the detergent. My skin used to itch like mad and then I read that people w/ sensitive skin can be affected by laundry detergent (who knew?). I also use All Free and Clear, it rocks!

Happens to me too.  I would suggest using unscented products for a while.  Detergent, body wash (I use Aveeno body wash and shaving cream), lotion, etc.  I don't know if fragrance is drying or an allergen or what, but it usually helps me.  Good luck, the itching sucks.

hi mara..i have the same problem as you, i think im a bit worse. i just went to the doctor(allergist) earlier and he told me that i have what is called atopic dermatitis, aka exima. my skin was completely dried out and itchy and sometimes it burns. he prescibed me some cream and ill post in a few days to let you know if it helps. but i would suggest seeing a doctor and see what he says. my doctor also told me for daily maintenance...use lubriderm advanced therapy. hope this helps.
