weird residue in hair
Permalink Closed

I have some kind of residue in my hair that won't go away! There is that is making my hair flat and heavy and sort of clump together. It's hard to describe but it's similar to what happens if you put way too much hairspray on except it doesn't feel as stiff and dry and feels a bit...sticky maybe? when my hair is wet.

It's not all of my hair - just from the roots down about 2 inches and towards the back of my head. It isn't really noticeable unless you touch my hair but it's driving me crazy because it has been like this since Saturday despite repeated washings. At first I thought I accidentally got a big glob of my Aveda Hang Straight there when I was in a hurry but now I have no idea what it could be since that would probably just make my hair greasy and would wash out.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get rid of this? A shampoo designed to get rid of build-up or some sort of home remedy?

the only thing i can suggest would be to to use a clarifying/purifying shampoo to get rid of any build up.  but it's weird that washing it hasn't helped at all, so i'm not sure.

i use

Pureology Purify Shampoo

Detoxify your hair while preventing colour oxidation with this ZeroSulfate® clarifying treatment. Our exclusive blend of three chelators & witch hazel, tea tree oil and baking soda, rinse away colour-dulling residue from chlorine, hard-water minerals and styling build-up. Great for everyday use on hair and body.

and i love it, but i'm sure that you could use a drug store brand too..

good luck!

ritz is absolutely right - i've had this happen to me before and i used a clarifying shampoo (aveda makes a nice one) and switched my shampoo and conditioner immediately.

get thee to the store and get some clarifying shampoo immediately, and then also a new shampoo and conditioner.

you'll be so relieved when it's gone!

cc, I was so surprised to read this post. The EXACT same problem had been happening to me on and off for the past 3 weeks. I changed my shampoo and conditioner, washed all my brushes with shampoo, styled my hair different ways.....after I did all that and it didn't go away, I swore up and down that it must be the water that changed somehow!

I bought a bottle of Aveda Shampure about 4 days ago and have used it each morning since then, and I haven't had the problem since. Try that product asap and let me know if it helps!!

ETA: I tried other clarifying shampoos over the past couple of weeks and those did not help the problem for whatever reason. I'm so grateful for Aveda!
