I don't do chick flicks at all - not my style, but I did just see Prime. I thought it was a total comedy, but it wasn't. With that said, it was pretty good. Uma Thurman is awesome as is Meryl Streep and the cutie-petutie from One Tree Hill is a pretty good actor!! And hot.

The Notebook - I really thought I would hate it, but I didn't.

Walking and Talking - This is an older, smaller film, and it may not technically be a chick flick, but it is about female friendships. I highly recommend it. Its by the same director/writer of Friends with Money.

The same director did Lovely and Amazing, which is also good and Jake Gyllenhaal is in it.

ILC, not to hijack your thread but I have a question for travelgirl & maddie - I couldn't even WATCH Matchpoint. I had it on for about 25 minutes & didn't even care enough to finish it - did I miss something? Was it good & I just didn't give it a chance? I just think if you can't hold my interest in the first half hour......

Laken, Ok, first of all...I LOVE Woody Allen. If I were slightly more neurotic, I could be him. I even watched Melinda and Melinda, that's how much I love him. So that probably played a big part in liking this movie. That said, I think you should try again. I really didn't like about the first 45 min. I thought that a lot of the dialogue felt forced and the acting wasn't necessarily great. Also, Woody can be his own worst enemy because he doesn't listen to anyone else and thinks all his ideas are genius so he has a hard time knowing when to edit things down. However, the drama that happens in the last 45 min or so is fabulous. But, I hated Elizabethtown, so perhaps we just have different tastes.

ILC, another rec...Steel Magnolias.

Thanks Maddie - I'll think about it - glad it got better & I didn't miss something in the first little while.

ILC - I don't know how your DH feels about these movies, my DH loved them both. But other things I thought of were Wallace & Grommit or Chronicles of Narnia.

The Family Stone.  It was well done and there are some great people in it.  Sarah Jessica Parker plays a very different role and Luke Wilson is hilarious.

Some of my friends loved it, some didn't, but you might check it out.

"The Virgin Suicides"   with Kirsten Dunst, it's not your typical chick flick.  but it is a really really really good movie.  it made me cry like a baby.

if your a mom, i would not recomend "Sofie's Choice"  it gave me nightmares.

"Saved"  i love this movie.  it is so funny.

I'm like Maddie in that I HATED Elizabethtown. Like with a mad passion. Kirsten Dunst made me want to do violent things to people.

But I loved Match Point. Seriously one of the best films last year. That said, I'm not a Woody Allen fan at all. I generally dislike most of his movies. But Crime and Punishment is one of my favorite books and Match Point is a remake of that, so there you go. (A loose remake but one of the better ones.)

Girly recs:

Love Actually (my fave)
Pride and Prejudice
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (remember that from the 80s? love it)
Match Point
Chronicles of Narnia (had to beg to boy to go see it and it was great. not sure if your DH would see it or not)

Shopgirl was awesome -- just watched it.

Also, Pride & Prejudice was fabulous. I was skeptical of Keira Knightley, but I think she did a good job.

I just saw Shopgirl and I loved it too. It was such a sweet movie and I thought the way it was shot was very 'pretty.'

Other older chick flicks that I love:

Untamed Heart- SO romantic but a tearjerker

Shag-a Dirty Dancing wannabe, but I still love it

Where the Boys Are- An old movie from the 60s but it's great and not too cheesy

Beautiful- about Minnie Driver in beauty pageants... it's really cute

The Man in the Moon-Reese's first movie and SO good

Drop Dead Gorgeous- a mockumentary about beauty pageants with Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley and Kirsten Duesnt. If you liked Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, or A Mighty Wind, you'll LOVE this.

Dirty Dancing Havana Nights- honestly, not as cheesy/bad as you would expect. I was entertained

Sabrina- I'm in the minority but I prefer the Julia Ormand/Harrison Ford version

Little Women with Wynona Ryder- my favorite X-mas movie of all time

ETA: Valley Girl- probably my favorite 80s teen-romance movie
