I'm meeting my long-time boyfriend's parents for the first time and I need the perfect outfit. They are already predisposed to dislike me -- we're of different faiths and they don't approve-- so I would like to make the best impression possible. I'll be meeting them at a graduation party so I'm looking for either a skirt/top combo or dress. The catch is that the outfit needs to be fairly modest-- no shoulders showing (short sleeves/cap sleeves are okay), no low-necks, no short or tight skirts. Any ideas?

hmmm, I'm not sure what your style is normally like. is the party more casual or more formal?

what about a fuller skirt with a polo top?

How about a shirtdress?

either-or dress<--with cute slingbacks would be a very appropriate outfit.

Or something bright and colorful like this:

aviatrix cardigannectarine skirt

Oh, gosh. Good luck! :) I have a few ideas that might work for you.

$158 at anthro. $42 at zappos.

$128 over $38 both @ Anthro
$78 @ Nordstrom $73 @ zappos

$68 at Anthro $250 at Nordstrom
$69 at zappos.

$62 at styleviolet
$73 at zappos

$118 at anthro $98 at anthro
$42 at zappos

$98 at anthro $128 anthro
$89 @ nordstrom

$78 anthro $118 anthro
$57 zappos

Whatever you do, make sure you are comfortable and confident in what you wear. A Mom is going to know if you're trying to look modest just because of her, so try to be that while sticking to your own personal style. If Mom thinks you're faking it, that's going to do more harm than good.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! The party is in the afternoon so I'm thinking casually dressy like a skirt and top or sundress. My style is pretty simple and feminine. I'm usually don't dress in super revealing things away but I figure that his parents and extended family are fairly devout Muslims and I don't want to offend anyone.

I especially love this dress:

Does anyone have it and can review?

And this blouse is the cutest!

Okay the Anthro shirtdress is out since there are none left in my size. I like these two from Ann Taylor Loft. Which one is cuter? I feel like maybe the white one, but the black one is $40 cheaper. Also, any more ideas for cute cardigans to wear over them?
