I think it is time for a fresh shopping ban/shopping diet check in. How is everyone doing?
I'm doing good. Almost too good. I'm having a hard time parting with my money for things I actually need - like hair conditinoer. Also, I went out looking for a pair of navy or olive pants yesterday, which are on my okay-to-buy list. However, I was being so picky that I didn't buy any. I did buy a Ben Sherman shirt at Nordstrom with my Christmas gc, so that was okay.
Overall, I'm happy so far with how much I've been able to cut back.
I haven't purchased anything shopping related this past week, so that's good. But unfortunately, I'm seriously broke this month already. I insisted on paying for a friend's birthday dinner Friday night (what?? - too many margaritas) and spent a buttload of money on food this weekend. The boy and I started South Beach today (not that he needs to but I guess it's good for moral support) and we went serious grocery shopping Sunday. Ouch. And because we were starting a "diet" today, we had all our favorite foods over the weekend - more $$$.
To repair though, I'm using a giftcard to buy two birthday presents this month. This is super good because I'll be saving $$ and I was planning on using the gc on myself, so I feel kind of like I'm encouraging the shopping ban, which is good from a mental standpoint.
I still have quite the heafty car repair bill to pay this month too... ugh. Broke as a joke.
well, I spent some money on glasses/contacts but otherwise I'm doing OK.
I looked back at the purchases that I've made the past few wees and even though I'm on a "ban" I really don't feel bad. They've all been basics that have helped me stretch my wardrobe quite a bit, and they really were filling in holes. And since basics are typically cheap, I've still managed to save $$. I was able to get my eye exam, glasses and contacts without having to dip into my savings at all! A far cry from a few months ago when I spent every last cent of the money that I had available to spend (I would take out for savings and not touch that, but everything else would be gone)!
I know exactly what you mean, blubirde. Even tho I haven't been shopping, between car repairs, car insurance, mother's day, and a birthday gift for my sister, I actually haven't saved any money yet. I guess the good news is that I was able to pay for the car repairs without the credit card, usually that wouldn't even be an option for me.
I was okay. I went shopping at this HUGE mall (Woodfield in Illinois) and only bought one top from F21, that I plan on wearing for sure. And today, I am going to the library so I don't have spend money on a new book (I rarely reread them anyway).
I did good but only because I didn't go shopping. I did get $200 in birthday money & $100 shoe gift certificate so that's kind of "free" money right now. But I'm torn on what to buy with it so we'll see what happens. I'm still broke though.

ok i am not on a ban anymore, per se, but i am trying to not buy dresses (unless i see something amazing). i was doing really well, but last week i bought four dresses...and one i can't decide if it's cute, or basically a burlap sack a la "i love lucy."
Ugh I am doing ok on the clothing front but horrible on the food side. I checked my cc's and bank balance and food is the #1 killer and where all my money is going now. Its like I've shifted from clothes to food. I have banned myself from the grocery store for a while and will only send bf to get one or two staples - milk, bread, eggs - when we run out. I can't trust myself in there. So yeah I'm not doing all that well when it comes to cutting out frivolous spending.
I actually had willpower last weekend! I have a Bloomies gift card w/ $81 on it and I *almost* used it towards a pair of COHs, but then I put them back. My ban ends on 5/31 and I'll get them then.
I'm doing okay -- I haven't gotten any clothes, but the BF and I went away for the weekend together, which set me back about $200. I also got a mother's day gift and need some new body lotion, so that will be about $40 extra.
i've been a silent participant in this, given my impending poverty. i've been doing well so far, the last thing i purchased was a belt from f21 like 2 weeks ago, but it was only $10.
the hard part is it is about to be sample sale season in nyc soon, which is damaging to my wallet. i think i'm going to allow a $100 splurge, but that's only to pick up this twinkle hoodie i want, assuming it's there. we'll see. though i did make a bunch of money on ebay, the proceeds of which will make a significant dent in my cc debt.

Honey...although I subscribe to daily candy, please keep me informed I'm just a train ride away from a sample sale!
I broke at the Rachel Pally sample sale this weekend, and I might go to the True Religion blowout sale if it means I can get another pair of Joeys for super-cheap....it's annual so I feel obligated to go.
I did return some things to Target and I spent nothing when I went with my co-worker last night. Plus my bag came in so I'm really happy with that. I'm like a baby who needs to be pacified sometimes...I'm just not good at this, huh?
