I got my car back last night, and there seems to be no damage or anything missing - I'm guessing one of two things happened a) someone just needed a ride somewhere and took it b) they towed it to make money - there was previously a scandal in that very same area of cars being towed when they shouldn't be ...
b/c my car was in the police impound marked as "stolen" i had to pay $116 as opposed to $200 (if it wasn't stolen)
they also handed me a parking ticket, geez. i'm annoyed that i had to pay to get my car out at all if it was stolen but they said someone's got to pay the impound fee! hmmm ...
good thing i live with my bro and was able to borrow the $$ from him!
right now i'm just happy to have my car back - i'll worry about the fishy stuff later.
Do you have insurance? If so, you can turn those receipts in for reimbursement. I don't know what I did in a former life, but I have had 3! cars stolen!

WTF? How can they ticket you? And why after you are victimized do you have to pay money? It just doesn't make sense to me. Seems like you are being further victimized.
wait, you got a parking ticket? Your car was STOLEN, how the eff do the cops know where you were parked? Isn't that a cop equivalent hear-say or something like that? Don't they have to SEE the violation? (I remember this was an issue with speeding tickets being issues based on ezpass checkpoints...) That seems really shady....you'd also think the city would cough up the impounding fee
