How's this dress for a wedding? (EDIT: Shoe ideas?)
Permalink Closed

So I'm singing in my friend's wedding on May 20 and I had THE hardest time finding a dress. I have been ALL over new york city looking for one under $150. After much searching, I finally decided on this:

(I posted the one of her wearing it so you could see it one someone/the bow)

I know there's no white or black at a 4:00 church wedding, but navy is fine, right? It feels very current but classic, and will be really fun to jazz up with accessories. What do you guys think? Is it ok? And it's fine if I don't wear a cardi or anything and just bring a wrap, right? (That's not inappropriate?)

Any my last question, I swear: I have cute red/natural sandals so I could just do red and navy, but I'm thinking of doing either aqua/bright blue or kelly green accessories (not aqua or kelly green shoes, haha, I'll get new shoes bc I have a macy's GC). I think they'll make it a little more "summery." So off the street I bought a really fun aqua round stone bead long necklace to loop around 3 times. Now that I get home and try that on with the dress, I'm not as sure. The neck is completely open so my thought was to sortof fill it up with yummy aqua necklace... but intstead I think it might be too much with the bow. Eek. Thoughts? Should I do some really fun aqua earrings instead--funky, big ones, and then no necklace?

oy. I guess that was a lot of questions, huh? :) I'd really love your input! As I mentioned before, I'm getting up in front of half my town and singing! (Eek) so I want to look really good! :)

EDIT: So I'm feeling secure in my navy dress, thanks girls. What shoes would you wear with it? I'm looking for a pair (preferably under $100) and I'm not really sure. Any ideas?!

I think the dress is lovely. I like the idea of navy, and you can do so many color options with it - aqua or green like you mentioned, pale blue, pink, red, yellow...etc. etc. I do think earrings and maybe a bracelet might be better than a necklace, with the bow on that dress.

I don't think you need a cardi with that dress - a shawl / pashmina should be fine. You sound like you have a great sense of style. It's hard to tell about the sandals w/out seeing pics...straw should be okay for a spring wedding. IMO it is always best to lean toward dressier shoes/jewelry/handbags for weddings than being too casual.

Have fun - what an honor to sing for your friend (and your town)!!

Great choice!  I also love the idea of aqua accessories and just bringing a wrap.  Have fun!

Thank you!!

I'm glad it passed the ST test (so far, haha). It's been a reaaally long time since I've been to a wedding (this is my first one where a friend is getting married) so I wanted to run it by you ladies to make sure I'm in the clear etiquette- (and style-) wise. Tx tx!
