bunions, eek!

My left foot has started to develop a bunion.  I'm only 24!  It's because of my dancing and all the pressure that I put on the balls of my feet/big toe, but I'm freaking out!  Does anyone else have to deal with these things?  Can you give me recs for things you use to prevent them?

Thanks!

I would like to know too! I'm only 23 and I have had a bunion on my right foot for a couple of years now. And I don't dance! I don't know what could have caused mine but it's there and it hurts!

Yowsas! I don't know what type of dance you do, but I have avoided them entirely by taping the parts of my foot where I think they could develop (for me, it's on the insides of my big toe). Do you normally tape? I think it makes a huge difference.

Some girls I know swear by these:

Bunion Busters®

BH012 by Bunheads

Great for bunion relief! This elastic fabric tube by Bunheads® has a gel coating on the inside for the big toe and bunion area. Helps alleviate friction and takes pressure off of the joint. Cut along the length of the tube and place over the big toe so that the Buster covers the bunion area. One size-2 per package

I used to use one of those triangular makeup sponges between my big and second toes.  Helped maintain the separation between them and kept the big toe more in line, so the pressure could be distributed evenly.

You can also get bunions by wearing shoes that have a very high heel and/or are narrow in the toes.  I'd stick to comfy shoes for awhile and let the inflamation go down a bit.

Thank you!  And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only young person with a bunion developing!  I'm definitely going to try those bunheads!!!  Thank you so much for the suggestion.

I don't do ballet, but I do salsa, and wear ballroom dance shoes for 3+ hours at a time.  Tons of spinning, quick direction/weight changes, etc.  I stick to heels that are less than 3 inches, but the vamps are always tight because you don't want your foot to move around in your shoes at all.  I can't give up the salsa dancing, so I guess I'll be sticking to flats, tennis shoes, and flip flops for everyday wear from now on!

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Nunzi182- In the reading I've done so far it looks like bunions are a result of a genetic pre-disposition, as well as a result of shoes/activities you do.  If you pronate or have flat feet you're much more likely to develop bunions apparently.  You might want to look into physical therapy for your feet, or maybe seeing a podiatrist?  I also want to try Yamuna body rolling for feet and see if that helps to strengthen my arches and improve my feet health.

I have flat feet so that could be the culprit!
