OMG! There are a couple of GDs at our dog park, but I don't think they're that big. I once met a Mastiff that was close, though -- his owner said he was about 180 lbs!

Awww!! DH and I want a great dane or a mastiff. We love big dogs, and these breeds are nice because they are gentle giants, so they are good family dogs, but they scare people because of their size so I will also feel like we have a good guard dog.

they scare other dogs, too! The GD owners usually meet at the park at the same times, because the other dogs won't play with them.

Very true! At this park near my house, I've noticed that the GDs and their owners hang out on one side, and all the other dogs and their owners are on the other side....

for some reason that makes me sad. i picture some poor lonely dog that the other dogs won't play with.
Our neighbor had one that was scared of storms. Imagine that big thing being scared of storms lol. It would just walk over their chainlink fence and would end up curled up on our patio. I don't have any idea why it did that instead of just going in their garage....Maybe it was just because we were home and it felt safer? It was a good dog and even though it could just walk over the fence, during a storm was the only time it actually would lol.

I hate seeing dogs like that. American ideas get the idea that the bigger the dog is the better, but it is not good for the dog to be that big. There are many health issues that come w/ dogs that big.
