I'm want to try making this dress (the green version) but adding a belt/tie to it. Do you think I should add the chest pockets, or take them off? Will the pockets and the belt be too much?(sorry for the huge picture)

I think they're cute, but I'd probably remove them if you have a large chest.

I actually like it with pockets.  I think it makes it more interesting.

I'm afraid it'll look too plain without them too.

I'll probabaly also take the skirt up to the natural waist and maybe add a touch more volume to it if that makes a difference at all.

Oh my goodness.  I have been looking at that same pattern.  I haven't sewn for myself in awhile because of time.  Please let us know how it turns out.  What fabric are you going to use?

Tigerlily- I'll def. let you know how it goes! DH is working all day tomorrow so this is going to be my Saturday project. I'm goign fabric shopping tonight and don't really knwo what I'm looking for yet... I have Navy in mind (I have a thin red belt that ould look cute with it) but I'll have to see what they have. I'll probably try to see if they have a cotton shirting or something like that to do it in. The pattern suggests linen, but I don't think that would be good for work...

I'd keep the pockets.

I like it with the pockets but another option could be to put the pockets like the pink dress.

I liked that too.  But I do think if you're going to do the belt then the chest pockets might be the best choice.  I also like the chest pockets because I think it makes the dress look "more expensive" (I've been watching too much Project Runway)

Choo could you post the link to that pattern? That's exactly what I'm looking for also!

flknight you're not the only one watching too much Project Runway.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm leaning toward keeping the chest pockets. I hate the way the one the model is wearing, so maybe the pockets will make it look less home-made. That and a better choice of fabric and a few alterations
