I do have a leopard pattern long scarf sash that would look good with the d squared shoes too -but then I'm thinking I would have to skip a necklace - it would just be too much IMO... unless it was a simpler wide belt... perhaps a wide silver belt? again, please post any and all suggestions! what about a wide brown leather belt with a simple buckle? That might go well with the owl too. I like this one:
you're really rootin' (or should I say "hootin'") for that owl, aren't you?
that's what I'm thinking too ILC - simple...

The owl necklace is so fun and unique - you have to wear it! I agree with honey on not wearing the JS shoes, just because they are everywhere and such an "it" item right now.
I really like the look of a dress over jeans. It would look very cute but also casual.
I'm also with honey about not using the js shoes. I love the ds's but I'm not sure if I like them with that outfit and to be honest I'm not sure if I love any of those shoes with jeans..any other options with color?
I like the owl necklace its great, it's not trendy but it's cool and very you...I think your personal style needs to shine through
When you go to Anthro to check out the white dress, give this one a whirl too - it's so gorgeous IRL and would look great with jeans (and the owl necklace!)
IME (I used to have to give actors advice on what to wear for their headshot), white doesn't photograph well. Much as I luuuurve that white shirtdress, I think that you can find something that will be more flattering to your skin and come out better in pics.
A shirtdress in a richer color (blues and reds would be nice) would be really cute with a thinner, menswearish belt, the jeans, and the owl necklace. How warm will it be in your area next week? I can't decide on what shoes, missy, you have so many utterly gorgeous ones.
this missoni dress (dark coral, turquoise, dark plum, with bronze metallic threads) over jeans (I am tromping around cranbrook grounds btw) with my plum armani jacket, thick coral rope looped twice & tied (this isn't the actual rope, but it's almost identical, it looks great with this dress) and bronze manolos? or maybe I should lose the jeans as someone suggested...

i love the missoni dress with jeans idea, but not with that jacket or shoes. i think you should do a colorful shoe, something with a peep toe or some "special" detail.
maybe wear another top under the dress rather than a jacket over it? let me think and i'll be back...

I'm at a point where I almost want to tell him to crop my feet out! I'm going to have to wear comfy shoes anyway for the location - and change into other ones...

I thought about layering it over, but I don't want to be "not me" too... actually, what I posted is very me (I've worn a choc. brown velvet jacket over that dress and it looks great - although this jacket may not - I'd have to see them on together...) if I lost the jeans, I'd wear dark brown boots.
even though the choc. velvet jacket looks great with it, I'm feeling like it's sooo winter of 06
and I think the owl necklace may be too much with this dress (I actually have several owl necklaces... maybe a gold one... BUT the coral rope necklace I looove - and it looks great with the dress. I do have a rope of turquoise squares too...
this is identical to one of my others:

Like the idea of a jecket over the dress, but probably not that jacket just because it looks too structured. A velvet jacket would be ok - velvet photographs beautifully!
And yes, definitely wear crummy shoes to walk around and then change!
side note: roy is a great photographer — i've worked with him many times in the past! please tell him i said, "hello".
eta: also, i know what lilykind is saying about not wearing white for headshots, but this isn't a headshot — i think the white dress over jeans with a great piece of jewelry is perfect. you'll be shooting outdoors (i assume it'll be outdoors) at cranbrook, white will be a great contrast to the landscape. roy is a master with lighting and a perfectionist with details. he'll make you look great no matter what you end up wearing. honest.
oops- I was thinking the rope was a belt. I think it might work better with the velvet jacket. And it might work with the plum... I'm just thinking it might be too stiff since its a suit jacket. I can see it looking very "you" with the boots or the jeans...
i just wanted to say good luck with the shoot. side note: roy is a great photographer — i've worked with him many times in the past! please tell him i said, "hello". eta: also, i know what lilykind is saying about not wearing white for headshots, but this isn't a headshot — i think the white dress over jeans with a great piece of jewelry is perfect. you'll be shooting outdoors (i assume it'll be outdoors) at cranbrook, white will be a great contrast to the landscape. roy is a master with lighting and a perfectionist with details. he'll make you look great no matter what you end up wearing. honest.-- Edited by hotcocoa at 15:16, 2006-04-27
he told me he just did a shoot for metro weddings at cranbrook this week and - I was going to ask if he knew you (because of the magazine connection) but I couldn't remember your last name when I was talking to him! I'll mention you on Monday.
and thanks for reassuring me on the white - much of his work is done with white (from what I saw on his website) so I thought it might be a good choice... I'm gonna hit B'ham tomorrow - so, angela - are you voting for the white dress? oh - and I know anthro has jocasi belts on-line but do you remember seeing any at the store? any other suggestions from you, angela?

I'm in agreement. Just got off the phone with angela/hotcocoa (she's worked with this photographer on magazine shoots before) and she agrees to stick with the white dress/jeans/great piece of jewelry/cool shoes route.
Thanks for your input everyone!!!

I just read through this thread and was going to tell you to do that! Glad that is what you decided on. It will look great.
Good luck!

I like the white shirtdress with the first belt Elle posted - super cool. I'm sure you will but make sure your jeans fit like a glove. A friend took some photographs with the dress over jeans thing and ended up looking huge because her jeans did fit as well as they could have - even though in person it looked great. Just something to consider.
But I do like the idea of the simple but funky vibe the white shirtdress/belt/owl necklace gives off. It does seem very much like your style.
FWIW, I'd kick out with some funky green or yellow shoes. Or maybe orange/orangish-red. Got anything like that?
A little late on this one, but I definitely agree about the white shirtdress over jeans. As much as I love that Missoni dress, I'm tempted to think the pattern might not photograph very well. I think the white shirtdress over jeans and some cool accessories is very "you" and will be perfect.
