got this dress (but in blueberry) from anthro to wear to a wedding next week:
here is a picture of me in it:
and sorry for the graphic close up, but it's essential to my question: my breasts obviously need some help in this dress. i'm having such a hard time finding a bra or something to work. i've tried the natural bra (mine is no longer sticky, but never really worked on me anyway -- i don't really have "stand up alone" boobs). the v-neckline drops down really really low, right to the bottom of where a normal bra band would be. i have this gap t-shirt bra:
which is low enough but the cups have too much coverage and stick out of the dress.
then i bought some super push up bra from gap body yesterday that kind of works but the straps show and it might be too push up-y.
do you think that sewing cups into the dress is the way to go? i just need something to hold my breasts more in and up without adding too much bulk. where can i buy the cups? a fabric store? or should i just ask my tailor? (i think it's something i could do myself)
or does anyone have experience with either of these:
"the natural clearly strapless underwire bra"this one has a strap on the back for $48
"the natural smooth support cups" this one sticks on for $24
I would take the dress to the store and just try on a million bra's until you find one that works.
Gap used to have this bra where the material that goes around was as thin as the actual straps. It would have been perfect, but I don't see it on the web site now.
I've used those sticky bra cups..but in my experience they don't really do anything or offer any support. maybe it was just the brand I got...
This dress is very cute. I love wearing dresses with plunging necklines. I usually wear the Adhesive cups from Victoria's Secret Adhesive, flexible cups adhere to the breasts for just enough minimal coverage under the barest dresses and tops. Imported rayon. Includes six sets of adhesive
They are $12. The way to get these to work best is to make sure that your breast are free of any lotions, lean over a bit so that you can get good lift and make sure that you pull taunt on the sides. You may have to practice a bit because once they are stuck they are stuck. So I usually get it right before hand so I know what to do when my event comes.
You mentioned sewing something in...I've never had it done but I probably would take the dress to a tailor just to be sure it comes out the way you want it. I did find this online
I'm not sure how it works though.
I also came across these...I don't think the straps will work though...they both have convertible straps. $28
If you can, go to Barnes and Noble and flip through the current issue of Threads magazine- there's a whole article on how to sew in cups for different types of dresses (and how to create cleavage or seperate or whatever depending on what you need). You can get the supplies at any fabric store and it's pretty easy to do.
I did find this online I'm not sure how it works though. I also came across these...I don't think the straps will work though...they both have convertible straps. $28 $64 I hope you find something. where did you find these? they look like they would be perfect.
those victoria's secrets options look good too, i'll go try those as well. thanks.
That dress is so cute! I don't have any bra suggestions though. Not to hijack the thread, but did you find that dress to be true to size? I might need it for my brother's graduation.
I also just found it at fredericks hollywood $30 I don't think the straps will work on this on at all but you may be able to go to the store if there is one near by and check it out. HTH
OK This is my last post....I am obsessed...with these bras. I never knew there were so many choices...I'm so excited (about bras) LOL I was looking for something at a store so you could go try it on...FINALLY. I found it at JCPenny...same bra...its the Fashion Forms U Plunge Bra.
OK obsession over. LOL I hope all of this helps. Its helped me.
nikib222 -- i guess it's fairly true to size (although with sizing being so wierd i'm not sure what size i really am anymore). i got a size 4. i checked some other dresses i have and in banana i'm a 4, jcrew also 4, and a gap strapless dress (the ones they had 2 summers ago in every concievable pattern and color) is an 8.
