hair: cut, color, or leave it alone?
Permalink Closed

Maybe it's just boredom, maybe it 30 minutes of blowdrying, maybe it'll pass but...

I am wanting a change, not sure if I want something drastic or not. Here's the story, i really want long hair...I think. I have had it really short in the past, but I always end up wanting it long again. But I'm bored...should I wait it out? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Sorry for the no make-up pics...

I think it looks great.  What about some highlights to change things up.

i hate to differ w/ FP, b/c her fashion sensibility is much better than mine could ever be, but i would not get highlights - your natural color is beautiful and does not need anything else - getting highlights would just be added cost, pain, and annoyance IMHO.  that said - i get them - but i have a very drab color naturally - just a yucky dull dark blonde.

you have a great color, so don't change it!  your cut is also great, but i would maybe get a trim - all the better for growing your hair out, and perhaps have them add some fun layers in the back - i think it was bex that had the cutest choppy sortof hair in the back - maybe if they could do something like that while maintaining the length, you know?

I would definately do highlights, and maybe some low lights in the back underneath.  Yes, you'll have to maintain, but what looks good that doesn't need maintence.

If you want it long, then just wait (or cheat and go for those extensions, but that's big moola from what I hear).

I wouldnot change your color at all, it's gorgeous and compliments your skin tone to perfection. If you want a change maybe some more layers or even more dramatic bangs to mix it up a bit.

i agree w/collette that your hair color is gorgeous and i wouldnt mess w/color. i'm for the bangs/more layers idea.

i totally agree.  i hate the cost, time, etc... of mine.  i have a dishwater blonde color that is not cute, so i kinda have to get them.  it kills me when women with beautiful natural color hair toy with highlights.

i would definitely get more chunky layers.

I love it the way it is!  If you absolutely need to change something, I'd do highlights or a clear glaze or something.

We have similar hair in regards to texture and color, but yours is much prettier. I don't think highlights are necessary. I get them, but that's because I started finding the occassional gray hair, and having highlights helps me not obsess.

Last summer I let my hair stylist cut bangs after years of long layers. I'm so happy with them. I feel like my hair is more versatile - I can do so much with them. Plus, due to financial constraints, I only get them trimmed every 2 mos, so I go from shorter, mostly straight across the forehead bangs to really long bangs that can be blended w/ my hair or swept across my forehead. So there is versatility there, too!

Anyway, you have beautiful hair no matter what you do, but bangs might be worth trying! I had wanted to try them for years, but never trusted any hair stylist to do the right thing.

You girls are all SO nice. If nothing else you've given me the confidence to wait and keep growing for now...

maybe too late, but you have beautiful hair! I wouldn't touch the color (I share shopgirl82's dishwater blonde, and I feel the same way), but maybe you could do a gloss or something if you're really itching for a change.

I like the length, but I'd trim it just a tiny bit so it's somewhere between this length and the length in your avatar.

Well, what about a semi-permanent color - like some reddish highlight? It will eventually fade away, but in the meantime would give you a short-term change... Just a thought.. you have gorgeous hair though!! You might also have her thin it - I get that done sometimes and it gives thick hair a little boost...

nooooooooooooooooooooo

no red!!  no red highlights!  your hair color is PERFECT, and red is the hardest color to get just right/ color over

Your hair color is gorgeous! I agree if you are going to do anything colorwise just highlight...I don't think you even need a glaze as your hair seems to have a good shine to it. I had my hair short like that for awhile and the stylist gave it a few layers with a razor to give it a better texture. That was the best cut I've ever had.

I have almost your exact haircolor and I actually go darker. I could post a pic if you want.

I used to go lighter, but it was damaging my hair and I just got sick of maintaining highlights.

this is just my opinion, but i would suggest maybe just adding a richer tone to your natural (just a touch!) and adding a few highlights/lowlights...just for some depth. i agree with what was said about doing more bangs. i could actually see you with a couple more inches in length, and more dramatic layers....
