I don't know if this belongs in this section, but today at school we had field day. I teach freshman and sophomores. Almost every year they do a skit where they imitate the teachers. It is all in fun. Today I was one of the teachers that was imitated together with alot of my colleagues. Much was made of my clothing and shoes. I felt that it was overkill and I was really hurt. I am probably just taking it too personal, but it has made me just want to look frumpy like everyone else at work (I don't mean any offense by that, but none of them really are into fashion) . The girl who imitated me walked out in really high heels, a skirt, a long top (much longer than I have ever worn), and a shrug and beads. It just really struck me wrong. I really like to dress well. I have been planning out an outfit, but now I am not sure about it. I am thinking about returning everything. Here is the outfit:
yeah -- they're just kids and don't really have a sense of style of their own. I know it must smart, but don't let it get to you (teenagers can smell fear). Anyway, I'll bet all the girls dress exactly the same. The fact that you don't dress like a 'teacher' is probably something they can't understand. "How come she doesn't want to dress like everyone else? Doesn't she know what's cool?"
Also, kids sometimes don't have well-developed sense of irony/humor -- it could be that they weren't trying to as hurtful as they ended up being

They probably just saw something different about you - i.e. you dress well - and exploited it for the humor. I'm sure in reality they admire your fashion sense!
That outfit is very cute, and professional. I would've loved it if my high school teachers wore cute clothing!

I totally agree with Alikat on this. I feel like your clothing might just be something that stands out about you so that's what they decided to "exploit", not in a bad way just in a way that makes everyone laugh because everyone probably notices that you have a sense of style so it's something that everyone watching the skit can appreciate.
P.S. I love the outfit you put together. When you first posted the jacket I didn't love it (it's just not my style) but now that I see how you've put it together I think it looks great!
You definitely shouldn't be upset! Think of it this way - there are probably teachers they cannot make fun of in public, like the one with the smelly breath, or the one that is bald!
I am sure they know that you can handle it and they will respect you more for keeping up with what you are doing, and how you dress. I am not a teacher, but I remember there is nothing worse than letting a teacher know that you "got them" as a student!
that outfit is perfectly fine. In regard to what I wear, I only respect the opinions of those who have a sense of style I respect. Everyone else, I just shrug it off.
Ditto! A coworker will sometimes make a comment about what I'm wearing, but I'm like "Dude, I'm not the one wearing a fanny pack!"
That outfit is adorable. Don't let them make you rethink the way you present yourself to the world. It sounds like you have very cute style.
Tigerlily, I'm sure you look great. You probably just stand out among the masses of jumpers, Teva sandals, and pleated pants. I'm sure your more stylish students respect you for this . Honestly, most teenagers (and I am one) have no clue about fashion and wear the same Hollister polo shirt every day anyway (or maybe this is just my school ). I'm sure you look great and that is a super cute outfit you planned out.

I'm sure they just notice your style because all the other teachers are "frumpy." I had a teacher like you at my high school; all the other woman teachers and most of the men teachers looked frumpy, but there was one who obviously put more thought and effort into her wardrobe. Did we talk about it? Yes. It was notable and an easy target. We did just the same thing where we'd comment on it during the winter "roast" of the teachers. In fact, with most teachers we teased them about things that we adored. It was easier to do so, because we talked about those qualities all the time. But did we completely admire how cute she was every day? Yes.
If she would have muted her wardrobe after we teased her, we would have felt awful and not known how to tell her we liked her best as her stylish former self.
You've got to know that they love you for it.

No, you better not return that outfit! First, most of these teenagers probably still think that you have to match your purse and shoes exactly, so why take fashion advice from them? Second, they picked on you for a good reason--I am sure they admore you for taking chances and not showing up to school as a frumpy teacher. They just had to take it to extreme for the skit.
As far as them imitating you, I guess I look it at like a Saturday Night Live skit - most people realize that when they get satarized on SNL it's because they have "made" it - apparently the students in your school know that you are fashionable, then they exaggerate that for their little skit. I look at it as a form of flattery actually. Don't become a frumpy teacher! You never know how many closet fashionistas you are saving from a life of gross unstylish clothes. I imagine some of those girls will look back & remember your sense of style fondly & will be thankful they had some role model of style. I'd imagine most of their mothers aren't stylish either so you may be the only fashionable woman they know. Like halleybird & her students. Long live fashionable teachers!!!!!

I agree with those that said they just took the most obvious thing that kinda defines you, or at least is your most recognizable quality, and exploited that for laughter. I have to say that if your good sense of fashion is how your remembered and what they used for a joke, then you are LUCKY! Better that then bad breath, frumpy style, helmet head, etc...
