Okay some of you may remeber my husband and I moved into an old home, 100+ years, recently. The house itself fits my decorating style which is kind of like old-tuscan-country-house mixed with primative style decorating. Here's my problem, I think I'm too fixated on similar paint colors. Here's the scenerio...
This is my sun porch:




See the wainscoting (sp?) below the windows? I'm thinking it would look nice painted a light tan, like to stripe in the rug, and leave the trim the white.

Here's the problem...

This is my diningroom:



This is our bedroom:



See how similar the paint colors are? I seem to be drawn to all the varying shades of "tan" ,"wheat" ", "mushroom", whatever you call it is it too monotone? Anyone make some suggestions or is it still okay to use varying shades of the same base color?

I think it looks fine.  If I was to add another color it might be a yellow-gold shade.  Or a shade of green?

I agree, it looks fine with the same type of color through the house. It gives it a continuous flow.

Nice place... It's very warm and welcoming.. That's an amazing sun porch.. I'd luv to hang out there on a swing with a frozen daiquiri!! :)

It would look good with the tan, but if you are wanting something a little different (which I think would be nice and you would like), I would do a sage-y green like in the rug.  Great rug, btw.  And I love your house, it looks cozy.

Maybe a soft, light green?  Or a a light, buttery yellow?  I'd do something that will make it feel even brighter and sunnier in there, instead of your beloved tan.  I love the tan everywhere else, but you can probably get away with doing another color in there since it's a more seasonal room.

At my house all the walls are a light tan. It looks really nice and warms it up so much more than white. What my mom did to bring color in though was to paint one wall with an accent color.  Whether if its to match a painting, or the bedspread, or a rug for example.  I think its a good way to keep the tan throughout the house, but still adding color.  So, maybe you could paint the sunroom tan, and paint the back wall a green color like most of the girls are suggesting.
