Staffing agency appointment attire?
Permalink Closed

Okay, I have a meeting tomorrow at a staffing/recruiting agency, so they can start looking for jobs for me.  I know I need to be dressed nicely, but not super dressed up like I'm going to a job interview. Does this sound fine at all, for an outfit (either one)?  I don't have a suit, and the shoe selection is limited in this town (Target, KMart, WalMart, Payless & Journeys is all I have).  I know I'm stopping at Target after work to look for a shirt and perhaps look into alternative shoes that what I have listed below.

Okay, the potential outfits:

1)Khaki pants, baby blue/teal s/s sweater, white cami, tan ballet flats (or other flats)

2)Gray pants, white shirt (have to buy), black 3/4 sleeve jacket, black ballet flats (or other flats).

I think both of those outfits sounds fine.  I went to a staffing agency to find my current job, and dressed similarly to what you posted.  Good luck!!

Do you have clothes that you would wear to an interview? I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't dress the same for the staffing agency. I have only been to interview at one temp agency before & I dressed like I was going to an interview because I felt like they needed to know how I would present myself to potential employers.

I may be out of line & the two outfits you described sound fine - out of the two of them I'd chose the 2nd one because I'd feel more comfortable in a jacket. but again, that may just be me..

I wore interview attire when I went to my staffing agency "interview." Mine was pretty much an interview to see what kind of experience and skills I had. After all, the staffing agency is your true employer, so why not dress for a true interview (like laken1 said).

Anyway, what I wore were pointy black kitten heels, dark gray pants, s/s purple sweater, black wool blazer thing. I didn't have a suit at the time, so that is what I wore to interviews.

It seems to me that darker colors and shoes with heels look more appropriate for an interview. Of course that is a generalization and not true for all types of companies.

Well, I definitely see what you guys are saying; I will say, however, that this being the midwest, or at least in Iowa, things run a smidge more casual here, even when it's for a professional thing. Me putting on a power suit just is not necessary.   I do want to be professional, but what I'm suggesting for a recruiting appointment is what many people here are wearing to actual job interviews.  That's just kind of the vibe around here (I'll be slightly more dressed up for actual interviews though).

As far as heels goes, I don't have any right now; Technically according to Zappos, my pumps that I ordered for interviews should be here tomorrow, but there's no guarantee. If they show up in the morning (my appointment is at 12:30pm), I might wear them

My bro said that when he went to his recruiting place apppointment/interview, he just wore business casual, so I'm thinking something along those lines should be okay for me as well.
