the other things to consider are they only take cash, checks, or amex (i think that's the one),

They take debit cards...I use my Visa debit card to pay for my purchases with no problem.

I get the flash frozen salmon in a bag too..

it's great...

I boycott Sam's club. Nor do I shop at Costco.

I can barely stand the large discount grocery store where I get my basics.

I shop for food there and at our local Co-op.

Fortunately, I live in a city where there is choice.

Target, however, is another story !!!

I use to shop at Sam's in Dallas then we moved to the coast then i shoped at Sam's in Victoria but we never bought big quanitys because they were more than two of us could use but would look for items pakaged in two's or single items. Most things are in large  amounts. when my card expired this last time we did not go back as we have to drive round trip of about sixty five miles. so with gas prices so high we decieded to just shop at WAll  Mart here where we live in our new Super Center which is only six miles away. We don't have a Cosco's here.  But gee that is a good price $20.00 for a Sams Card. Mine cost $35.00 for a year.

i won't support sam's b/c they are owned by walmart.

we have BJ's, which is essentially the same thing as costco and sam's. i go in there to buy very specific things, and only go alone (if i take my bf there he tries to buy everything and we would spend a million dollars).

i get stuff that we use a lot of:
paper towels -- the bf is insane with them,
salad greens (they have earthbound organic spring mix in the really big plastic boxes for $2 cheaper than the regular store),
cheese (huge blocks of cheddar and wedges of brie),

and then stuff that is a little cheaper and just good to have:
big box of laundry soap
toilet paper

other good stuff they have:
smoked salmon (a huge package for $7)
pineapples for $3
coffee (2lbs of starbucks for $15)

i don't know if Sam's has other services but i know Costco has great deals on travel packages and stuff too, hundreds of bucks (or more) less than average.  so $20 is probably worth it just for that.

Sam's does have other services too. They have travel services, a pharmacy, you can get your checks through them and they also develop film.
