(I wasn't sure if this should go here or in Beauty and Health)

I read this today and got excited... my closest Sephora is two hours away, and my closest J.C. Penney is ten minutes away. I wonder how large of a "store" will be in each store...

J.C. PENNEY: Deal plans Sephora shops within stores

Associated Press
Published April 12, 2006

NEW YORK -- In a bid to lure young female customers, J.C. Penney Co. said Tuesday that it will open Sephora stores within its department stores starting this fall, under an agreement with the high-end cosmetics retailer.

Sephora will open "stores within stores" and be the exclusive seller of beauty products in Penneys, which has been trying to erase its image as a dowdy, middle-market department-store operator with younger, more modern merchandise and marketing.

Sephora, which is owned by Paris-based luxury goods maker LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, operates more than 500 stores worldwide selling cosmetics, perfume and other beauty products from different brands. Penneys operates about 1,000 stores.

Under the agreement, each Sephora shop will be located in a prominent location in the center of the department store and feature the display cases and trained salespeople who work in standalone Sephora stores.

That's REALLY cool...especially since it sounds like they're basically letting Sephora put their stamp on the department. I live very close to about 5 Sephoras now, but I would've appreciated this so much when I was going to school in the boondocks. JC Penney and Belk were the only department stores in town...if you didn't use all Clinique, Lancome, or Estee Lauder you were screwed.

Wow that is great news. I have always wanted to try their beauty products.

I am BEYOND thrilled with this. Since, as of now I'm not moving anywhere (), the only department stores I have near me or in my actual "city" are Younkers, JCPenney's, Von Maur, and Dillards.

I'm tired of online ordering because there isn't anything here and I don't wanna have to drive 3 hours to get to the nearest Sephora

i understand that its nice for people who don't have a Sephora nearby... but JCP?  i dunno, in my mind, Sephora just went down a couple of pegs.  i know JCP has come a few steps forward in fashion as shown by some of the posters finds as of late but still.... partnering with JCP???

Anyplace that has a department store much nicer than JCPenney probably has a Sephora already !  JCPenney is kinda The Smalltown Mall Anchor Store, so it probably just made the most sense geographically.

i guess i could just see it in a Dillards or Von Maur or Belk so much better than a JCP...

Ooo this is exciting. I can't wait to see if they open one up in my mall. I thought I was destined to drive 2 hours to Sephora my entire life!! Although I am truly excited about them opening on JCPENNYS, I would much prefer just a mini Sephora store. Or perhaps...a huge Sephora store! Hehe. And yea, JCPEnnys does seem like an odd place for expensive cosmetics, but malls with Neiman Marcus and Saks already carry a lot of the brands Sephora does, or already has a Sephora like Elle said. It will be interesting to see how this turns out...
