Katie Holmes has been banned from speaking to her baby for a week after it is born, it has been reported.

The pregnant actress has agreed not to talk to her new arrival, believed to be a girl, for at least seven days after she has entered the world, in accordance with fiance Tom Cruise's Scientology beliefs.

Katie, who is due to give birth any day, has already promised Tom she will deliver the child in complete silence, and she will also have very little contact afterwards.

A source told Britain's Closer magazine: "Katie respects Tom's dedication to Scientology. She is devoted to him and wants to bring up the child the Scientology way."

L. Ron Hubbard - the founder of the strange sci-fi cult - writes in the religion's creed, that all followers must live by, that new born babies must not hear their mother speak for a week so they will not associate their voice with the trauma of birth.

that is total BS.  you bond with your child in the first 3 minutes of their life.  how can you not talk to your child for a week after it is born.  and excuse me for asking this, but how many people do you know that are traumatized by their own birth?  i am not.  the baby won't even remember after about a day or an hour or however long.  so why would it associate moms voice with trauma.  i have allways seen that moms voice is the comforting voice for most babies from day one, because that is the voice they heard the most inside.  they recognize there mom immediatly.  aaaarrrggg!!!!!!!  sorry, i could go on about this forever. 


TOM CRUISE IS A NUT CASE!!!!  AND HOW DARE HE EVEN ASK THAT OF HER!!!!!

There are sooooo many things wrong with the Scientology way of dealing with babies and childbirth, I don't know where to start.  I'd begin with (1) Where exactly did L. Ron Hubbard go to medical school?   and (2) How many babies has he given birth to?    If it's true that she's agreed not to talk to her child for a week, Katie Holmes is either starstruck by Tom Cruise and willing to do pretty much anything he wants so he'll keep her around or she is very, very dumb.  I have no kids and I still know that a baby needs to hear his/her mother's voice. 


Given the current length of a Hollywood marriage, they'll probably be divorced before the baby is old enough to remember living like a Scientologist.

I think it's pretty much been confirmed that they're doing the whole "silent birth" thing.  John Travolta and his wife were talking about it, as was Leah Remini.  It's a crock of bull if you ask me though!

This is really sad to me.  She will be robbed of so many of the joys of motherhood due to that freakin' cult (sounds cheesy, but it's true).  I bet her parents are devastated, b/c I read something that said non-scientologists can only have limited contact with the newborn.


Of course, I'm sure Tom can talk to the baby all he wants under these rules.  Nice.

I don't know, something about Tom Cruise and the crazy glazed look in his eyes in the previews of his interview with Diane Sawyer just make me believe all this crap.  He just looks spooky and even the previews made me uncomfortable.  Poor Joey Potter!  He is a wacko.

It's Friday night & I hate to admit it but we aren't going to be home & I was going to tivo it too. I wonder what I think he'll say? "yes, I believe in the aliens, her dad hates me & I have her under exteme mind control"?????

How can Katie Holmes, or anyone, fall for this crap! L. Ron Hubbard is nothing more than a sci-fi writer and these people are listening to this nonsense!


Has anyone heard the news lately than John Travolta's son has I think it was autism, but I could be wrong about the disease? They said that he and Kelly Preston refuse to get the son medical help because they do not believe in taking drugs for that. If that is true it is really sad!


I had googled scientology the other day because I was curious to see their story. It is such a scary cult. On one site they were talking about a hotel where they take people to in Florida to try and convert them. They hold people against their will for days and according to reports several people have even died while being held.


Katie Holmes parents need to take that unborn baby away from the craziness! If Katie doesn't leave that is her fault, but they need to save the child. In between trips to Britney's house, CPS needs to be waiting for Tom and Katie's baby when it pops out of the womb!!

same here. I missed it but found an article about it here http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,1183803,00.html  It says there that he won't reveal the sex. But- On one of those celebrity gossip shows, they spotted them baby shopping and went in to ask what they bought. The lady held up an outift and said "blah blah and this is what they bought for their baby boy blah blah" haha I guess they forgot to tell her she wasn't supposed to say lol.

My first thought was, "what a ridiculous rumor," but then I remembered we are talking about crazy Tom Cruise. Gosh...I hope this isn't true!
