I have two plain white polo tees. I want to re-create them. Anyone have ideas? I don't do well with stencils...they never seem to work. I have a ton of fabric paint. I love the "destroyed" look, and even some splattered paint (anyone done this before?). Does anyone have any ideas on how to make them unique? I know it's all preference...but I would love some random ideas. TIA

You could do all kinds of things, really. I'm in the iron-on phase, personally. I did a bunch of Golden Girl shirts for xmas and I'm hooked on juicing up plain tees and beaters. My fave: pic of Sophia with "picture it, Sicily" written on it.
You can buy iron on paper and basically put whatever design you want on it. Just use your printer (or I think you can use a copier too) and go to town. I printed out a pic of Rose's head and ironed that on.
I'm also a big fan of appliques (I know, I'm actually an 80 year-old woman). You can stitch them on really simply (or preferably stich and use fabric glue or just use fabric glue I suppose). My favorite is big, thick string, so you can see it on top of the applique. You could do birds, hearts, other cutesy things or do skulls, crossbones, whatever you want.
You could also splatter paint over any applique or iron-on you put on it. That might be a cool look, especially if it's in a diagnal type pattern (just put old towels or sheets over the areas of the shirt you don't want painted although be warned, it's not an exact science).
You could also rip up the collar of the polo but personally, I think the structure of the polo with something creative on the front would go well together.
Blubirde! I want one of those Golden Girls shirts! They sound hilarious!
I second the applique idea. Look around on the Free People web site for inspiration. Cut out cute shapes (birds, etc.) in different fabrics and sew them on with thick colorful threads. Add buttons, paint, etc.
I don't consider myself particularly creative but I am a great copy cat. When I'm looking for something like this I go to craftster.org & do a search - in your case you can search polo shirt or reconstructed shirt or paint splatter, etc. There are TONS of great ideas out there & I could (& do) spend hours on that site.

Thanks ladies. I will definitely post pics when I am finished. You gave me some great ideas
Here's something that I made a few months ago...I'm thinking something like that maybe. I hadn't considered doing it again, but you ladies reminded me of it-
I love the bird idea. I'm going to have to make one of those.....
