I think as long as its trackable it's ok. A seller just sent a dress to me fed ex signature required (without telling me!!) and it was such a pain! I'm not home during the day to sign for it, and don't have time to go to the fed ex place (its not exactly close) and they don't deliver on weekends. It was the biggest hassle EVER and I was really pissed off about it.

But, maybe you can suggest sending it to their work so they'd be there to sign during the day, if you're not comfortable just sending it priority?

I would say ok but also get delivery confirmation? That would make me SOOO nervous, girl! Can you insure the priority mail envelope for that amount too? I think someone else suggested that & it sounds like a good idea to me - worth the extra couple of dollars.

Looks like you can only insure up to $500 unless you do registered mail - up to $500 is $6.50

ETA: I'd let him know that you are more worried about the post office delivery than "him" per se. I mean, he needs to understand that the post office loses mail & if it's lost you are mostly SOL - it takes FOREVER to track & get refunded on a cashiers check. I guess I'd just say it so he isn't completely insulted, because really, if he gets the check & doesn't send your item, you aren't covered under the post office anyway.....

I would insist on sending it certified mail to protect yourself. if sending it to him at work isn't possible, then what's the worst case scenario? he won't get it until saturday? is it a rush for you?

also, when they try to deliver certified mail and you're not there to sign for it, don't they leave you a notice that you can sign (that counts as the signature) and check the option of having them leave the letter, and then the postman will just leave the letter the next day?

 

if i have something that they won't deliver because they need signature (we have a mailroom they leave it at the rest of the time), there are drop off points they can leave it at.  for ups, mailboxes, etc. is one.  and for fedex, kinkos is one.  i do this a lot because it's easier than going to the suburbs to pick up a package.  i've called several times and had them hold it at kinkos and it's never a problem.  kinkos is great because they're open 24 hrs. 

if you don't mind waiting for him to pick it up till sat. and ship it sat.  i would continue what you're doing.  if it bothers you, maybe just suggest having it dropped off at a holding station such as mailboxes etc. or fedex.

yes, it's an inconvience for him, but he's the one who doesn't accept paypal (if i'm correct), so he needs to understand he kinda brought it on himself.
