Lasik or other eye surgery?
Permalink Closed

Hi girls.  I’m curious to if any of you have had Lasik or other eye surgery to permanently correct your vision?  My dad had this about a year ago in Arkansas and said he has dry eyes a bit more but other than that his vision is great and his eyes are fine.  I’m looking at getting this done in NYC so if you also have any recommendations for around this area let me know!

I’m just curious to see if others experience dry eyes after the surgery, if you have problems with your vision since the surgery or if it was a totally positive experience?

i haven't gotten it yet b/c my prescription has been wacky for the last 2 appointments and it needs to settle down this year so I can start going to get it done.

my sister had it done about 8 years ago.  She had very very bad eyesight and has been doing great with it.  no complaints about anything...

i'm sooooo jealous you are able to get it!  i can't wait until i can!  i would have done it 3 years ago if i could have!

My mother had some kind of eye surgery where they removed cataracts. She was really scared (since there is some chance you could go blind or something) but after the first one she couldn't wait to do the second one. She was so happy and kept going around looking at everything and commenting on how pretty everything was. Good luck and I hope your surgery turns out as well as hers did.

My boyfriend just had Lasik done about 2 months ago.  He had pretty bad eyesight and he can see PERFECTLY now.  He said it's the best thing he's ever done.

He went to TLC Vision Center.  I know they are in NY.  Here's the link to their website:  http://www.tlcvision.com/

I would highly, highly recommend them.  The consultation is free, and they will tell  you exactly what and if you are a canidate for.  His surgery was a breeze and the doctors/staff were so friendly.

As for the dry eyes, my bf did experience that for the first month or so, but as your eyes heal it goes away.  They test your eyes for moisture levels before the procedure, and if yours aren't a certain level, they won't do it.

I definitely think you should get it done.  When he went in for his 1 month follow up, they told him he has 20/20 vision.

If you have any more ?'s, feel free to pm me or post here.  HTH!

My mother, sister, and brother all had Lasik done (haha on the same day, it was like a spa party at the vision center) 6 or 7 years ago.  They were all blind as bats and now everyone can see!  My mom has to wear very mild prescription glasses while driving at night, and my brother had to go in for a "touch up" about 3 years ago, but they are all extremely happy with the results.

I don't know if I could ever do it.  Having my eyes forced open, I can hardly stand getting my eyes checked and waiting for a flash of a camera!  It seems like everybody who has got it done, is glad they did.  I think Jessica Simpson got it done and said it was the best thing she has ever done for herself.

ejc423, that's hilarious! i just like the idea of your whole family trooping into the office and sitting in chairs next to each other as their eyes are operated on...:)

my uncle had it done and i think he just said it was a little different at night (lights were brighter or something) but i also think that might go away. i'm thinking about it myself but it just seems scary. but i've really never heard of any bad experiences (and it's pretty common), so that's reassuring.

the bf works at a Lasik office so if you have any specific questions let me know. I'll ask him for you.

I wish I could get this done but I have the same problem as you Courtney.  I think I'd flinch and move so much during the surgery that I'd mess it all up.  Just the thought of having my eye forced open makes me feel all icky.

Overall I've heard good reveiws from everyone who has had it done.  They have many types of procedures now so I'd probably do a lot a research before going through w/it.
