need advice on MJ dress--I'm bummed *UPDATE*
Permalink Closed

NMOS6_-0LVQ This beauooooooootiful dress arrived yesterday.  It fits perfectly in the waist and hips, but there is just one problem--it is ever so slightly large in the chest and is a little too low cut.  It looks like if it was taken up a little in the shoulder seam it would be fine.  But, what if it gets messed up somehow and I am out all that money.   I have a dilemma.  This is the most money I have ever spent on an everyday dress--it was really expensive personally for me.  I am having a problem with the thoughts of having it altered when I already spent so much on it.  I guess I just expected it to fit perfectly according to the given size measurements.  Also, my SM magnolia shoes arrived (which I ).  I didn't buy them to go with this dress, but I was kind of hoping.  They do not go because the blue in the shoe clashes with the blue in the dress (the color combo is just off)  I do have these yellow ones coming Monday Etienne Aigner Celtbut I am concerned that the leopard print buckle might clash with the dress pattern.  I actually got these to go with a couple of other outfits.  So I am thinking I need to buy another pair of shoes (fuschia colored ones have crossed my mind because I am currently wearing fuschia nail polish and it really looked good against the dress)  This is just getting more expensive.

I am thinking about returning the dress because the place I ordered it has free returns   and just buying it off ebay for alot less.  I will still have to get it altered, but I won't have put out quite as much money

Here are a couple of ebay auctions, but oneis from China and I am not sure about getting something off ebay overseas--especially since the sales are final..Also I am worried about authenticity?? Please advise me.  I am sorry for being so long winded, but I am a little bummed

Marc Jacobs is usually off my radar completely since I simply cannot afford that "lifestyle," but I have considered trying some of the knock-offs selling on Ebay.  There are always knock offs of MJ stuff, and I personally believe that anything coming out of China is definately a knock-off, no matter the brand.  That isn't really a problem for me though, so long as I know what I am getting into.  DH buys all of his Nike Air Max 95/97's off Ebay because while Nike is too retarded to re-issue the shoes (ok, they did one reissue of orange a year ago, but that's it), we simply buy them new from China off Ebay.  We have the real things to compare too and in all, but one case (we have bought 7 pairs off Ebay from China), the knock-offs were exactly like the real thing.  Even in the one instance it was only a matter of not having as much air in the pocket as the real ones, not a look difference.  My point is that China can make excellent stuff, identical in some cases, at a fraction of the price for the real thing.

In your shoes I would go ahead and order off Ebay from China, but before bidding just contact the seller to ask if the sizing is the same as the stuff being sold in the US stores; that way you can get a heads up if sizing runs small or whatever.

You obviously love the dress, so why not just do a knock-off, have it altered to perfection, and enjoy the style which is what I assume you are after anyway.  And then, with all that money you save, you can buy a hot pair of fuschia shoes to go with it!

I would return the dress.  I just wouldn't spend that kind of money on a dress unless it is perfect in every way.   I would buy one of those ebay knockoffs from China.  They may say they are the real deal, but I'm 100% sure they are not!

Thanks for the advice.  I took it to a tailor this afternoon and she told me that it was actually a whole size too big on me.  I am sending it back.  I am thankful that the place I got it has free returns.  Drew, you are right about it being the style I am after -- I could care less about the designer and  I feel the same way as you Cortney that if I am going to pay that much money it better be perfect in everyway.  I really hoped it would be.  I am so happy the tailor is an honest person and didn't just take it and hack on it.  That kind of dress is really beyond my budget.  I used some Christmas money on it, but it was seriously limiting my ability to do some other things.  I will probably just get a knockoff from ebay.

Meow, I just sent you a PM about the dress and the seller I bought it from on Ebay. It looks authentic to me and the fabric feels nice. Like you I really did not want to pay full price for this. Now that I'm Ebaying I will probably get a lot more of my clothes this way, as long as they keep on being believable knock-offs. Good luck!

I have been thinking about this dress all weekend.  I've imagined myself layering it over a white button up or other spit neck top, then wearing a shrunken yellow cardi over it, and maybe green or white w/red shoes with it.  Now I have to have it!

Scarlett, I wanna order it off Ebay too.  Can you tell me about the seller you bought one from, the fit, and a review in general?

TIA

Hi Drew -- thanks for PMing me, I hadn't checked this thread again. I'll post my reply here so others can see if they're interested.

The seller I got this from is 929store. Here's a link to their store on ebay: 929store

I'll explain my own sizing issues in hopes of giving you an accurate description: I can wear a 4 or a 6, and sometimes even a 2, depending on how a garment is cut and also what it is. For example, a dress with a very full skirt in a 2 might fit me, wheras I may have to wear a 6 in pants. Over the weekend I tried on a pair of Marc Jacobs pants in a 6 and they were too tight. I got this dress in a 4, which is the size I get most of my dresses in. The skirt is forgiving, and it fits me fine on top.

The one drawback is the seaming in the bust area isn't as low as I thought it would be. It cuts me about 3/4 of the way down across my chest. (I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but I'm talking about those two seams that look like they go under the model's boobs.)

Generally speaking, I'm happy with the dress. If the seaming thing really bothers me when I wear it, then I may sell it again on Ebay.
