I could use some opinions. I actually thought about this yesterday when I was shoe shopping, and then again when I saw the sandal pledge.


I'm worried that maybe I shouldn't be a sandal wearer, because even though I have perfectly okay feet I also dance (ballet), so I have a permanent angry red mark on the knuckles of both of my big toes, and a callous on the outside edges of my pinkie toes (a callous that I "need" so I won't get rid of it). In the summer, I exfoliate and polish my toenails and everything, but do I have to give up sandals? How much of a faux pas is it to wear open-toed sandals if you have icky feet? And what qualifies as icky?


If I can't wear open-toed heels, that eliminates about 80% of my shoes.

oh girl please..


your feet really don't sound that bad. At least you do care for your feet.


I've seen some people walking about with ashy crusty looking feet that will make you wonder if they've been kicking dust or something. and they don't seem to have a care in the world. I think you are safe if you, exfoliate them regularly,  make sure your nails are properly trimmed and put a little polish on them.

Honestly, I didn't like the sandal pledge as long as your feet are clean and scubbed to the best of their ability, you are fine. Be proud of your dancer's callous


Personally, I very rarely wear polish - I like the look of clean trimmed natural nails on both my hands and feet, and there's nothing wrong with that. 


Plus, everyone's feet are different, and the beauty of them is subjective - if my feet don't meet someone's standard of beauty because my toes are shaped differently than theirs (I do have unusual tapered toes), then that's their problem, not mine.  I'm going to wear whatever footwear I want and feel confident and comfortable in it.

I wouln't worry about it.  Like Ayo said, it's the people who walk around in flip flops with their heels so cracked they look like they're about to split in half that are baaaaaaaaaaaaad.


If you're taking a pumice stone to your heels and filing/painting your nails, I wouln't worry about it in the least!


ETA:  My feet are still exactly like you say yours are, and I haven't danced on a regular basis for 2 years!  I follow pretty much the same process that you do (exfoliate, moisturize, file, polish), and I'm sure our feet look 10 times better than half the sandal-wearers out there!

ok - that is kind of gross when it's obvious that they are not taking care of their feet... but I don't think any of the girls here are that negligent of theri appearance? at least I hope not?

I wouldn't worry about the sandal pledge!  Like the other girls said, if you exfoliate and take care of your feet then wear your sandals with pride

I really wouldn't worry about it.  You can't help what your feet look like because of dancing...wear your sandals w/pride.  It sounds like you take good care of them anyhow!

I'm also kind of with you about the nail polish thing...I actually don't mind the natural color of my nails..and before I started running..and my feet got all jacked up, I would definitely not wear nail polish on some days.. I don't think it is taboo at all.

Oh good! Thanks for the reassurance everyone.


Did I mention that one of my toenails is falling off? Just kidding. That did happen once, but I refrained from sandals for a bit.

I'm kind of glad I saw this thread because I have the same problem! I dance, not ballet but I have permanent red marks from my shoes too and while I take care of them in every possible way, I can't help but notice those when I'm on a date or something...

ok girlies............just wondering if I offended anyone w/ the sandal pledge? I thought it was more humorous than anything else.


 


BTW: My feet won't win a beauty prize........I try to keep them polished (or not)


and try to make sure it doesn't look like I've been kick boxing a bag of flour. (cracked heels that is)
