Hair style advice

I need to figure out how i want to do my hair for an upcoming wedding. I want it to be up, and I want it to be kind of messy/relaxed, but when it comes to doing my hair, I am stupid. Any easy hair styles that i could possibly do? Thanks.

do you know how to do a french twist? my go-to up-do is a messy french twist.

  1. start by brushing side-parted hair into a low ponytail.
  2. twist the base of the ponytail a couple of times around tightly.
  3. turn the ponytail upward while continuing to twist (while twisting the pony against your head, occasionally stop and tuck and smooth hair into the twist as you go)
  4. when it's twisted to where you want it, tightly secure the twist against your head with tight-holding barrette, allowing the top of the twist to spray out.
  5. smooth hair and style the spray with hair spray to hold in place (I love Aussie Real Volume)

sometimes, I'll curve a flat iron through the spray so it kind of curls over the twist to give it a more polished look, and sometimes I spike it up.  You can also cover the exposed barette with your hair when finishing, or with a chignon fork spiked into the twist and over the barette.

I use a standard cheapo goody barette that blends with my hair, and a chignon fork like one shown below if I need more hold or want hair jewelry (I have some antique ones I use on occasion too - so that's another option):

Smoothies - Wave Pix- BlackFred & Lola - Glass Cabochan & Crystal Hairstick - Heliotrope (1)

here's also a site that might do a better job describing how to do a messy french twist (it's hard to describe!)

I use the hair forks also (I prefer bigger ones).

  • I pull my hair back in a pony tail first.

  • Then I play around with my bangs and shorter layers to get them how I want them to look.

  • Then I take the ponytail out and wrap the pony part in a bun at the back of my head. (You'll want to play with this to see how high or low you want the bun.)

  • I poke the fork from the bottom of the bun, upwards to the top (turn the fork the opposite way it should appear when finished).

  • With the bun pushed through the fork, turn the fork so that the bottom of the bun is now on top and the fork is facing the correct direction. As you are turning the fork over, push it through the top of the bun. It's all one movement that pulls the bun into a twist.

  • Curl the ends that are sticking out, pin them down, falt iron them for a spiky and/or wavy look, or pull a few pieces out for a messier look.

It sounds a little complicated but it's really not. And once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to do it in a few seconds. I do it once or twice every week, depending on my hair washing schedule. Sometimes I pin my banks back and just leave some shorter layers on the side for a messy ballerina look. (At least in my mind!)

Good luck!

Bluebird i used to try messing with the hair forks but for some reason my hair is way to heavy and it always falls out. But maybe I will try again.
