Ebay bidding strategies
Permalink Closed

Okay, I have some stuff to sell on ebay, but need to build up my buyers feedback first so I'm watching quite a few things (in fact I have my eye on Smash's red trench ).  I am super, super annoyed at the people who get into bidding wars when the auction still has 5 days left!  How stupid!  All it does is drive up the price!  I've been trying to track down a Zeno for 3 weeks, and they all keep going for around $175 because people start bidding as soon as they're listed!  Baaahhhhhhhhh!

I know as a seller I'd probably like the early bidding wars but as a buyer they drive. me. crazy.

Do you guys have strategies for this stuff?  Or do you find stuff randomly that doesn't get to many other bids in the first place?  Snipers?  I admit I'm still a little wet behind the ears when it comes to ebay ....

bidding wars annoy me to no end. mainly b/c ime they often result in deadbeat bidders and the items often end up getting relisted.

anyway i usually just use auction sniper (www.auctionsniper.com) and if i want something i'll watch a bunch of them until i get one for a price i want.

I guess I don't bid on stuff that a lot of other people want.  I'm a newbie too, and the only time I bid early is if:

1. someone else has aleady bid

2. I REALLY want it

3. then I bid to see how high the other person's max bid is compared to the max I want to pay

Mostly, I just wait and snipe at the end, but sometimes it's good to know if other people are interested.

i always and only snipe. i use esnipe.com which has been great. i think otherwise you are just contributing to driving the price up higher than you have to.

I snipe myself. We have won SO MANY AUCTIONS by just not bidding until the very end. I don't believe in bidding wars - when I find an item I want I decide how much I'm willing to pay & never go over, not even a penny. We watch when it is ending & bid at 20 seconds. period.

Yeah I wait this long.........usually the highest bidder thinks they have already won........I 20-30 secs I bid and keep refreshing til the end.

EVIL!

Yeah, we usually have a few windows up - one to refresh - one for they bid & one "just in case" higher bid- well, DH does that, I usually don't because I decide on a price & stick to it. He has a max price & a REALLY max price. I just don't believe in that myself!
