I AM GOING TO BITE SOMEONE EAR OFF
Permalink Closed

I have a paper due tomorrow and it is a f-ing group project. We were sort of able to pick our partners. I chose the slightly older women who is graduating in May to be my partner. Assuming she would be more responsible and actually make it a group project instead of a "Ryan doing everything for all the members of the group because they are worthless morons who have zero work ethic" project.

So... it is almost 9:30 and our paper is due tomorrow. She has yet to email her part of the paper. It was supppose to be sent to me on Wednesday night, so I could put our paper together over the weekend and have the final copy to her by Sunday, so she could proof it and we could make any changes. Guess what? I DON'T HAVE HER FREAKIN PAPER! I have emailed and called her numerous times. Finally, I got a hold of her today at about 1:00 and she told me she would email it to me really soon.

So as usual I am spending my night finishing up her half of the fing paper.

If I disappear again from the forum it will be because I am incarcerated.

whoa! chill, Mikey...

that has to be horribly frustrating. I don't even know what to suggest... can you say, send me what you have now, so I can finish this up? then possibly make her be responsible for the next paper?

I had the same thing happen to me last week.  Group papers are the dumbest thing ever.  The person sent it so late that I just had to copy and paste and pray for the best.  Hopefully your girl will send it soon.  Keep bugging the hell out of her and threaten to pull a Mike Tyson.

I totally didn't get it. I kept thinking "Who the hell is Mikey?"  I thought "is she talking about the Life Cereal kid? Why because he is Life that means he will eat anything?" The when I read theotherjess' post and it made sense.

Thanks- that mellowed me out a bit.

Thankfully we don't have to do anymore papers together. I called her a few times and she has not answered. I started wrting her side of the paper a few days ago when she didn't give me any help.

so how do you handle that when a team member totally flakes on you? I always wanted to approach the prof about it, but never did...

LOL! Now I don't feel so bad that I didn't get it either.  I initially thought that it was Detroit's nickname for you

I have often talked about it w/ profs because I loathe group work. The brat comes on in me. It just seems so unfair that someone always getS screwed. Most of them give the response that give is "life is unfair and wait till you get into the real world" response.

A few years ago I had a really huge project that was worth 50% of our grade. I ended up doing about all of the work and I was so pissed about it. I narced on my group memebers and then ended up getting incompletes. They had to complete the same project by themselves.

I understand the learning experience in regard to leadership and teamwork, but leaving you in a lurch is out of line.  I would complain - you've got nothing to lose (except for friends if any of them are friends.)

No, she isn't my friend. We are friendly, but not friends. I think I am going to say something. I am pretty close w/ my prof. and I think he will hear me out.

I agree w/ talking to your prof. I had to a few times. I recently graduated with a BA in English and we had to do a lot of groupwork. There's always someone who doesn't pull their weight. The prof will understand and most likely will only grade you on what was completed

I truly don't understand college group work. In HS, we do it to improve social skills and to prepare kids for cooperative learning, but by the college level, it should at least be optional.

I've had at least one group project in almost all of my grad school classes too.  I haaaaaate it.

sorry ryanj that this is happening to you.  I've been there and it sucks.  If you get to evaluate her either by discussion with your professor or by turning in something where you state what you did and what they did and how you think they performed (I had to do this all the time - the profs required it) definetly go after her.

I had a group project last semester and I had a football player in it (not by choice). He never came to any of the group meetings (there was like 2) and he didn't send his portion of the paper til like 1 am the day it was due. And he didn't even do it right. Before the project was due, my group spoke to our professor, and even though she was a total jerk, she understood and graded us differently.
