I got the new Free People catalog. Some of their stuff is really cute but there is something I'm not sure about. Throughout the catalog they have these girls in summer dresses wearing rain boots or waders or something......it says they are hunting boots. I found it intriguing but just a little strange. Just wondered what everybody that gets the catalog thought of this.

They are Wellies and made for the rain or sloshing around in the mud. I've seen that look in mags since at least the early 90's. I've always remembered it because I love the look. What I really liked about the looks in the catalog (I got mine last night) were the layered dresses. I totally want to copy that look. Plus, I love how they can make a girly, frilly dress so completely casual. I've gotta figure out how to do that. Well, I guess that's my take.
I just got my catalog yesterday. I liked the look of the wellies with the dresses, but I don't think I could pull it off personally. They had a lot of cute stuff in the catalog. The dresses were so pretty and I loved how they braided the models' hair.
that brand of wellies are classics (hunter)--an old british company, i think, but lately they have been making them in all sorts of colors (often donating proceeds to various charities) because rainboots have made such a comeback.
I LOVE the Free People catalog! I get great ideas from their outfits, although some of them are just for the catalog imo and not real life. I think their looks are adorable and can be recreated within means. For example, in their last catalog they had the girls wearing dresses with converses and it was really cute and totally re-creatable. As for the wellies, it woudn't work for my climate right now, but I like how they start trends like that. I've been seeing it around, and if you can pull it off....I would love to see it. I'm sure it would look great on some girls this season.
I do like the way the catalog is done. It makes everything pretty. I did see a few things I wouldn't mind getting. I love the necklace with the little bird on it.
