Okay girls, here's a diy question for y'all. I have a small outdoor area (grass doesn't really grow - it's just kind of leafy and grows dirt, etc.). I want to put down some kind of flooring (rug, carpet, plastic flooring, etc.) so I can put out a few patio chairs and maybe a table. I could put the chairs and things down now but I really hate the ground. I don't own so I don't want to spend a lot of money on it and it has to be something that can be removed when I decide to move out.
Any ideas?
Someone suggested indoor/outdoor carpeting but I did some research on it and it's mainly for use on hard surfaces (concrete, decks, etc.). Does anybody have any experience with this? Do you think it work on a solid ground that doesn't have a hard surface?
i'm not sure how much sod is, how much of a space it is, the characteristics of the space, etc... but could you do sod?

A guy at work suggested I use some landscaping and gravel, which seems pretty inexpensive, although I think I'd have to get the owner's permission before I laid all that down.
I don't that much about sod but I kind of want something artificial so I don't have to deal with bugs so much or dirt, etc.
The bitch of it is that I can't find any online resources that answer my questions. I hate that!
i think home depot sells that green astroturfy stuff...would that work? the look of grass without the bugs and dirt! plus, it's probably pretty cheap...you'll just be walking on it, not laying out or anything, right? so it should be fine.

this might be kind of an oddball idea, and i don't know what your decor looks like, so it might be too boho/colorful for you, but i love these plastic rugs that look kind of like real rugs. i have this exact one in my kitchen, and it looks really cute.
they are actually intended for outdoors. you could do a really creative thing with overlapping several of them in different colors. plus, they are inexpensive and totally portable when you move. there's a website that sells them in all different colors and i am racking my brain trying to remember it for you. i'll post it if i can remember.
edit** remembered! it's kokotrends...here is link:

Hmm... You think these would be durable enough for outside? I like this one:
i just saw these interlocking wood deck tiles at West Elm:
it's like a make-your-own-deck...they're $99 for 4 so not super cheap (you'd prob need at least 8, depending on the size of your table), but pretty cute and definitely portable.
I found this at Target but I think I'd want 2 sets which would put me outside my price range. But they're definitely portable.
