So my Anthro dress arrived today and I really love it, BUT - it's too big in the sides, under my arms. I can't take a smaller size, because it wouldn't button up past my boobs - it fits great there...but it's a little too big in the sides and the straps are a little too long. I want to keep the dress - can I take this to my tailor and have them make the straps shorter and take in the sides? Is this possible? Is it worth it, or should I return it?
I was wondering today if you'd received the dress yet! So, turns out you and I have the same problem with it being too big on top after all. I'm taking mine to the tailor's tomorrow to see if it can be taken in. I've done this before and think it should not be a problem for this dress. After I go by the tailor's, want me to write you and let you know what he says?

Yes please - definitely let me know what he says!! Are you thinking yours needs to be taken in at the sides too? I'm hoping it can be done since that seam runs down the length of the whole dress.
I think I'm just going to have it taken in on the sides down to the seam that runs under the bustline. (Does that make sense?) I figure that won't be a problem as there's another seam to act as a border. Or is yours too wide all the way down, and not just on top?
OK, I'll post tomorrow with an update! I think I'm just going to have it taken in on the sides down to the seam that runs under the bustline. (Does that make sense?) That makes perfect sense - so let me know tomorrow! Mine is only too wide on top, like you. Thanks!
shopchicago, I dropped off the dress today and the alteration should be even easier than I thought. When I tried it on, it fit just fine after he pinned up the straps to make them shorter, so I don't need to have it taken in on the sides after all. Since we're about the same size I suspect the same will be true for you. HTH!

Oh great - that's what I was hoping you'd say! I'm going to take mine in in the next couple of days, so I'll let you know if it works out for me too! How much is he shortening the straps?
That's gorgeous! I think I need to make a trip to Anthropologie. I haven't liked anything the last 2 seasons so I've stayed away. Looks like they are back to being good.
Girls -help me. I think this dress is going back. It's cute and all, but I took it to my tailor last night, and even w/the straps pinned up, I would still have to get the sides taken in. It's just too big under the arm area. I don't think the $128 dress is worth all the alterations. Plus I just bought this cute dress from AE that I love:
Tell me I should return it, or convince me I should keep it? It just doesn't seem meant to be.
Return it. If it were significantly less expensive or more expensive, it might be worth the tailoring. But if you've found a similar dress for less (I think the AE dress is $58, right?), then I'd take back the first one.
Besides the AE dress is easier to do things with, imo. You can dress it up and down easier than the Anthro dress.
Woah! I can't believe I'm advocating sending back an Anthro item of clothing! I must be losing it...
