Converting jeans to bermudas...
Permalink Closed

Has anyone done this?  I tried these from Juicy a few weeks ago:

NMOS6_-0LSU

When I tried them on, I realized they fit just like my other Juicy jeans from the knee up.  So I was thinking of taking an older pair and converting them.  Do you think it could work?  I have fray check, but how do I get them to fray just enough?
TIA!

just did it and totally love it!  i highly recommend it and i only wish i had a digicam to show you the results.  let me explain as best i can.

they started off as jeans that were mildly flared, not really that flared but flared enough so that they were definitely not skinny jeans.  which makes sense because i got them three years ago, long before skinny jeans were back.  but anyway, they fit really well at my hips/butt but the jean itself wasn't really doing anything for me and i never really wore them because i liked my other jeans better.  so that made them the perfect crop candidate.

so, i took a normal pair of scissors and cut them to about 3 inches below the knee and they fit perfect.  they end right where the top of my calf begins, and hug them there, no "flaredness" going on at all.  hope that makes sense.  the great thing is they really accentuate my legs and i was so worried they'd look off somehow so phew, sigh of relief!  anyway, i may cut them shorter to make them true bermudas but not until i figure out how to get that frayed effect, anyone have any ideas?  also, vanessa what is fray check?

i've cut up jeans b/f and usually if you throw them in the wash they will fray naturally and stay that way. you won't need fray check (stuff that stops fabric from fraying) but every now and then you might want to cut the stray ends. i have a couple of skirts that i've done this to and they've survived numerous washings w/out unraveling.

i just cut an old pair of sevens into bermuda's and I just sewed a small zigzag hem along the bottom (maybe 1/2 an inch from the bottom) and then washed them to get them to fray. i also trimmed off the excess

fray check is a glue that prevents fabric from fraying but i've found that the hem does the same thing and is easier/cleaner/etc..
