i'm regressing...
Permalink Closed

i just turned 28 and over the past year or so i have been trying to convince myself to dress more like an adult (but as you can see from my TS posts that isn't exactly happening...) and then i find myself really really wanting things that remind me of my youth. like this tee - i'm obsessed with it!

and last night i had a dream that i bought a bunch of "pop-beads" off ebay and made a belt with them. oy. what is wrong with me! :)

does anyone else find themselve yearning to incorporate a few favorite things from their younger years (i'm not talking like french-rolled jeans or scrunchies or anything...) into their current closet?

smash i totally know how you feel.

there is a skate-park near our house in our new area we moved into last year and i really want to buy a board and hit the rails! but that probably isn't happening. i find myself going into pac sun, roxy... sometimes checking out the skater kids stores on broadway and lafayette... i still go into sanrio sometimes.

anyway, i hope this isn't a debate about whether or not to buy the shirt.. you should just get it!

ha ha - i probably will just get the shirt. hey, every now and then i bust out my gameboy for a game of marioland. now i can be a full-on nintendo dork. :)

i love that you have the urge to board! you should totally do it. :)

hey, off-topic, but are you still in brooklyn? if so, can you pm me with where you are living and what your experience is with living there? we are looking at a few places in brooklyn for a move this summer and we are kind of clueless about places to look.

I totally do all of these things, too! I skater style. Ha ha!

Anyway, I am just going with it, and trying to find "adult" ways to wear these things. Get the shirt, Smash!

I Mario Bros!

I like my screen tees waaaay too much.  Usually, I through them on under a blazer to make them a little less teenager-y .

I express my inner child in my pajamas. I wear those men's tees from Target with the cartoon characters on them. I have a Mario one, Snoopy, South Park, Underdog, M&M's. I also have South Park pj pants.

I bought a Junk Food catwoman t-shirt in purple because I had one just like it when I about 6.  I hardly ever wear it, but it makes me smile.

oh I can totally relate, smash. I still love my 80's cartoons- like Rainbow Brite and the Care Bears. The Care Bears tee I wear to sleep since a tad big, but I got a Junk Food Rainbow Brite shirt from UO last year and I wear it with pride.

OMG Mara I need to buy that shirt!!! When I was in Africa I was trying to explain this game to our guide and he thought I was nuts! Fabulous!

But yeah my inner child comes out too. Lately I've been wanting to bring back my old mohawk (yes I had a big ole rainbow colored mohawk for a looooong time) but I know there is no way I can pull it off anymore. Sad.

I have a Snoopy t-shirt that I found in a thrift store a couple of years ago. It never occured to me not to wear it. And I wear it without any irony, too.

So, kudos to you for being self-aware, Smash. And wear your SuperMario t-shirt with pride!

Now I want to find a Morris the Cat (9-lives spokescat) t-shirt -- I had (still have) a Morris t-shirt that I loved when 3-4 yrs old... how THAT for regression! ha ha

ETA: found one on e-bay for $42! Well, it's cheaper than therapy

I buy this sort of stuff all the time...most of my graphic tees have a lot of nostalgia or meaning attached. I feel a serious need to rifle through some old t-shirts right now.

Mara...I want to get that shirt so bad...

i live in brooklyn!!  so nice!  what areas are you looking?  the ones that instantly come to mind are park slope and carroll gardens, i live in williamsburg, which is fun but slightly younger.  Brooklyn heights is nice of course, but more like manhattan.  If i could afford, i'd live in park slope or carroll gardens.

i love the tee! hope you get it.

also totally unsolicited, but if you're thinking about moving out of manhattan, you might want to check out jersey city. tons of space for your money, and depending on where you live it's like a 10 minute commute downtown.
