Can I mix brown and black?
Permalink Closed

I just had a lovely conversation with a SA from Coach on the phone.

He said because this bag I want is so big, he is discouraging people from getting white. (more likely to get dirty, bump into things and such)

I like the brown but haven't had much of a need for a brown bag. I dont currently own one because I wear almost exclusively black.

Other colors I wear: blue, tan, teal, pink, LOTS of green and TONS of black and white.

If I am wearing all black, would it be okay to carry a big ol' brown bag like this? Or are we still not supposed to mix black and brown?

I think mixing black and brown can be done well. I usually do this by incorporating a print that has both black and browns in it, like leopard print.

If you wore something like leopard print shoes or the right floral print scarf, an all black outfit and that brown bag would look really put together and chic.

i wear a lot of black, and i carry my lombok with black outfits all the time.  i usually work some other brown in somewhere, too, though - either a big brown belt or my studded seychelles (black with stacked brown heel).

it took a little getting used to, i used to be very anti-brown-with-black.

i think you'll be able to do it.  plus, the brown would look great with all your green and other colors!

go for it!

Maybe I am just lazy, but for the most part when I pick a purse to carry I carry it for at least a week.  That doesn't meant I wear all black or all brown either.  Now I always want my shoes to match, but with a purse it has never bothered me.  I say carry the bag and don't worry about what you have on!

I have just done some poking around on MyStyleDiary.net, and a number of girls there mix black and brown. Just to give you some ideas.

I think brown + black can work. But it has to look intentional IMO, and not just like you didn't pay close attention to getting dressed. So I'd just keep some brown accessories on hand... like a wood bangle, or a cool brown belt, etc. to put with all-black outfits. But maybe that's just me, and I do tend toward matchiness.

That bag is beautiful, btw, and I am not even a big Coach fan.

you definitely can.  i mix my luggage colored kooba all the time with black.  that color is SUPER versatile.

but....if you want the white bag, get it.  i have an MJ Multipocket and i just clean it every once in a while to maintain it.

its my favorite color combo.  i prefer black w/ a brown bag to black w/a black bag.  thats a beautiful bag- i'm sure i'd like it better than the white.  Maybe a diff. style in white?

I am anti-brown with black. Its a personal quirk I have.

But....maybe its just me, but I don't like the bag as much in the brown. The white is much more striking. In the white it seemed like such a statement piece and in the brown it just seems like a bag. JMO, though.
