I just checked my credit report with Experian and apparently I have an open Credit Card with Wells Fargo even though I told them verbally I didn't want the card in August!! I don't even know what to do. I don't want this card and I don't have any information on the card because I thought I had cleared this up. Does anyone know of a number to call or what I should do. I'm clueless.
Hmm....maybe make them send a confirmation letter to you that the account is closed? I almost wonder if the customer service people get points taken away if they close an account?
A few months ago my sister called Old Navy's credit department to have a name taken off the account, and to have a new account # and card sent to her. She found out this had not been done after getting a bill...her ex used up all but $5 of the credit limit! She's still trying to fix it. Of course he will never pay the bill, because he is a jobless loser.
There should be a contact number at the bottom of the credit report. I know there was when we pulled a credit report as a lender in case you need to contact the company directly - does your copy have that? It's a list with every company that appears on your report.....

I wouldn't bother with the CC company...dispute it with the bredit bureau. You can look up the 800 number to which ever bureau you got your report from.

Will this get rid of the CC though? I want to make sure I don't have a CC floating around out there that someone could get a hold of and start charging on.
Make the credit card company send you a written confirmation that the card has been closed and the date it was closed. Don't give up until you get the written confirmation. The card is always going to show up on your credit report but eventually the status should be listed as closed. Although sometimes that takes a while as well. I had several store credit cards that I had to do this with and it took some persistence but eventually I got them all closed.

That is what I would do. I always make sure that I have written confirmation.

I agree. This happened to me. I closed an Amex account three times and it still showed up on my credit report. If you have the confirmation in writing, you can dispute with the credit bureau.

halleybird - did you get them to actually take the closed card/account off your credit report or does it still show up but listed as "closed"?

It's listed as closed. But my case was different -- I actually had and used the card for a few years in college, and then closed it. Turns out they had never actually closed the account, so I found out a few years later.
